Re: Allan's Vehicle Services

Ah, I came here to officially bow out of Bongo world (for now*) and saw this - it's relevant because after buying our 1997 2.5D AFT model in 2009, we took it to Allan's and he kept up the servicing for the next few years. (He replaced all the coolant hoses at that initial service, pointing out that ...

MOT fail conundrum

Hi all Just hoping for a few pointers/opinions. We have a 1997 2.5D Bongo, which we've had since it was imported in 2009. Aside from a few niggles, it's been fine on the whole - we've been lucky I guess. However, yesterday it failed its MOT on a leaking steering rack, and corrosion to one of the sil...

Cleaning AFT switch

Hi After giving up on trying to fix my non-opening sliding door (I made it as far as removing the trim before deciding I'm more likely to lose/break something than sort it) I remembered that our AFT has been very temperamental lately, with a largely-unresponsive switch. Being a bit rubbish at these ...

Re: Dead AFT....

Ah, OK, thankyou. I think I'll need to get it to a garage to take a look. A bit concerned in case the insurer goes for a writeoff - the bodywork has already been quoted as £700 labour + VAT + parts.

Re: Dead AFT....

If I can just weigh in - I've got the same problem. I just tried to put the roof up to air it, and it's dead as a dodo. I'm midway through an insurance claim because we were rear-ended just before Christmas. I see a reference above to a control unit in the rear OS pillar - this would be part of the ...

Re: battery terminals in opposite positions

Ahh the old sales line We don't make anything on them and fit them for free Good business sense that Loads of people on here use bosch Varna not gonna be £40 worth better In my opinion OK! I guess you can't blame them for trying. I think I'll save my money and go with the Bosch. Cheers Stewart

Re: battery terminals in opposite positions

Any thoughts on the Bosch batteries vs Varta ones? My local garage (known and trusted) are recommending the latter, although considerably more expensive - about £130 vs £90 for Bosch. (I know it sounds like asking a barber whether you need a haircut or not, but they say they don't make anything on t...

niggles...

Hi there! I've been collecting a couple of niggles to try and deal with. Any ideas/suggestions will be greatly appreciated (as always). First, can someone point me to the rev counter sensor? Our counter jogs around a lot and often falls to zero. When this happens, the hold light flashes slowly. I un...

Re: Windscreen washers not working

Hi, sorry to bump an old thread - but both my washers have packed up and I'm looking for some ideas.

The tank isn't empty! I can't hear the pumps working though the wipers are fine.

Thanks

No, thanks for the link. Looks likely this is the problem - when the van is properly warmed up, it doesn't have any trouble at all.

Re: Lumpy starting

Thanks for all the replies everyone, it's a very helpful forum! So, likely culprits are fuel filter and/or glowplugs. As the filter is £15 and a set of glowplugs is £67, think I'll try the filter first (any hot tips on getting the drain plug undone? I've been trying to turn it clockwise as I look fr...

Lumpy starting

Hello all Our 2.5D Bongo has recently become a bit temperamental on starting. It hasn't yet failed to start, but takes its time and seems lumpy/sluggish for a few seconds - as if I'd started it without waiting for the glowplug light to go out (not that I've ever done this, of course... well, just th...

Re: We are booked for the 2011 Bash!

Didn't get as much use out of the Bongo last year as we'd've hoped, for various reasons... but now we have a couple of nights here to look forward to as well as a trip to Wales in a couple of weeks. Yay! Edit: By the way, doesn't look like the site is too far from the Worcester Beacon, is that right...

Re: TM-2 Tabulated readings

We've had ours for about a year, on a 1997 2.5D. It's fitted to the lumpy bit behind the handbrake (!) - can't remember which spare bolt-hole it went to (checking will give me another reason to undo it and re-route the cable for neatness' sake). Usually it runs between 92-95, like Radio 4, but will ...
