Re: Bongo conversion companies
Thanks for the recommendations. It means a lot as know I dont get involved here like I used to. I still browse occassionally but dont log in often. Celtic Motorhomes are pretty much 99% VW T5 based now, but we have retained the full side conversion for the Bongo and even introduced a few tweaks to ...

Re: Ace Campers or NMA Cars Full Side Conversion
We did a bit of trade work for nma a few years ago. Neil is a nice guy, so you should be looked after.....sorry we couldnt fit you in earlier ourselves, but it does get busy this time of year.

Re: aftermarket roofs
I am more interested in trying to find out if there is a decent one already in production that is available to joe blogs whether or not he has bought a bongo from the manufacturer, than having one made. We dont do that many bongo conversions to make it worthwhile, and if i was having something speci...

Re: aftermarket roofs
I am trying to be diplomatic, but its difficult when I hold such comtempt for the rubbish some companies produce....but suffice to say, I am familiar with most of the roofs mentioned. I do understand that the bongo market is smaller than that of vw and the amount people will pay is less. But from wh...

aftermarket roofs
We have converted 100's of bongos over the past 8-10 years, but only ever done a couple where they have had aftermarket roofs fitted to tintops. With our vw conversions we only fit Reimo or SCA roofs that are fully type approved, and the fit and finish are superb (as is the price  ). We have ...

Re: Leisure battery keeps going flat.
It does sound like a failed relay. Just as an observation, but the .08amp draw sounds like the green light over the ignition switch......it always throws me when checking for a drain on the circuit once i have wired up a conversion. The light draws .09amp when one of the front doors is left open. Ju...

Re: I bought a heated blanket . . .
The ones I have seen are around 50-60 watts, so they would totally flatten a leisure battery over night. I would not expect them to get that warm either. I suppose they would be OK when driving....but then your heaters will be good then also  , and when on hook up, possibly a mains one would b...

Re: DVLA and self conversions
I too, suspect that conversion companies are trying to talk you out of attempting it yourself. Some of them talk utter rubbish.
There is no reason your own conversion if done well and with the correct bits, cannot be registered as a motorcaravan.

Re: no electrical feed to radio, 12v cigarette lighter, mirr
It all depends on who did the conversion as to how its wired. However, if you have a leisure battery then almost certainly you should have a charging relay. It would be best practice to place the fuse as close to the leisure battery as possible, so I would look at the heavy + wire on the leisure bat...

Re: no electrical feed to radio, 12v cigarette lighter, mirr
Sounds like you have a fuse gone on your leisure battery set up. It is common for the lights / blinds / radio to be wired to the leisure battery. Normally this will involve the wing mirrors and central locking as they are unfortunately on the same circuit. So my first suggestion would be to check th...

Re: Fitting new seat belts
I would be very surprised if the folding seat was anywhere near up to the task of having a 3 point belt attached to it. When testing seats to M1 standards, a seatbelt is subjected to 3 tons of pull - I cant see the mechanism on a bongo seat being able to withstand anywhere near that.

Re: 2 random problems
Sometimes the radio and the central locking are connected to the leisure battery if you have one. If the leisure battery is low on power this can affect the radio and the central locking. If you dont have a leisure battery, sorry #-o dunno apart from fuses and wiring loom. what he said  . Thi...

Re: Interesting speedo chip claim
They are confusing bongos with other imports - certainly subaru's are sometimes limited( to 112kph I think), and a chip does delimit them. However, it doesnt apply to a bongo, and I certainly had problems with the only bongo I ever used a chip on .

Re: 110v inverter, huh, what is it good for?
It sounds like your getting quite a bit of voltage drop due to the weedy cable used for the 12v socket and the long distance from the battery - my 12v compressor doesnt work well unless the engine is running, so with a reading of 12.4 volts I would expect it to run a bit slow. The inverter wont do a...
