Re: Spoiler LED brake light

I had a similar problem with a number of LEDs quite dim. The price tag of £249 from Mazda is scandalous, so I thought I would replace all the LEDs, if I could only open the plastic enclosure. I tried the Stanley knife method, and it looked like it would take ages, so tried the warming up in an oven ...

Re: Head gasket replaced; no start/run V6

I agree with you, I don’t think any of them actually failed “in service” and there was no undue noise before the work was commenced. If I remember the explanation correctly, they didn’t adjust to the correct size after refitting and therefore the valves didn’t move. I really can’t say any more.

Re: Head gasket replaced; no start/run V6

I can’t really say how much it cost to replace them, as the installation cost was part of the main head gasket work and my total bill took account of how long the Bongo had been with the specialist etc. However the parts cost per hydraulic tappet as fitted was £40.69 ex VAT. I did get a quote for no...

Re: Head gasket replaced; no start/run V6

Forgive me for taking so long to post this, but I don’t like to think about it. :( However for the benefit of others who may find this discussion in the future, I can report that after the installation of 24 new hydraulic tappets (from Japan) the Bongo is running well and we had it back before Chris...

Re: Head gasket replaced; no start/run V6

Thanks for all suggestions to date. I know the garage is looking at them. Some guys in work who are familiar with hydraulic tappets on other engines suggested a few problems associated with possible poor oil supply to the tappets. (Some of the suggestions may not be possible - they are not familiar ...

Head gasket replaced; no start/run V6

In May this year, I put my V6 into a Bongo specialist and Bongo-friendly garage to cure an oil leak. They replaced the camshaft seals and all was fine until it leaked again a couple of weeks ago. This time the same garage diagnosed a leaking head gasket and has replaced both, with heads being skimm...

Re: Chinese Lanterns Banned at The Bash

Coincidently - there was a report on BBC Wales X-ray yesterday. Here's a link to I-Player (it won't be available indefinitely) - it's about 22 minutes in. http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b01271cq/XRay_Series_11_Episode_5/ If anyone has difficult with the Welsh accents - let me know and I'll tra...

They have also fallen on electricity substations, where their wire frames have caused a flash-over and interuption to the electricity supply to thousands of electricity users.

Re: V6 hot start

I eventually discovered that under high vacuum conditions in the inlet manifold, fuel was leaking though the fuel pressure regulator into the inlet manifold via the small rubber vacuum tube. Whilst I didn’t know the fuel pressure regulator was the cause of the hot start problem, it was wasting fuel ...

Re: V6 hot start

Thanks to "cheffy34" and "apole". I made myself an adjustable spark gap and connected it in series with one of the plug leads to see if there was any deterioration of the spark when the engine was hot. I found that the spark would jump about 11mm when cold and about 10mm when war...

V6 hot start

Sorry if this subject is covered elsewhere, but I've failed to find the exact issue. I've had a 1999 V6 petrol Bongo for 3 years and until recently cold and hot starting have been excellent - always first time, without throttle. However, recently hot starting has deteriorated and takes a few seconds...
