Re: glowplug nightmare - bongo won't start

The garage are saying that they think its the relay control unit that's gone. Apparently they had alot of trouble getting the glow plugs out the second time.

Is the relay different to the control unit or would both need to be replaced (likely)

Re: glowplug nightmare - bongo won't start

Its back at the garage now.

The breakdown chap tested the circuit about 15 minutes after the engine had started and he definitely didn't think they should be on for that long.

Re: glowplug nightmare - bongo won't start

Is there a sure fire way to tell what size the glowplugs should be? (I'm guessing that the old glow plugs were binned by the garage by now.)
Only way I can think of is checking how close the injector pipes are to the glow plug rail - there should be a reasonable gap. I fitted the 83mm plugs to ...

Re: glowplug nightmare - bongo won't start

He said it could be the wrong size glow plug, or the relay switch or the circuit.

That's quite a range of options - he got it going - what did he do to "fix" it? Was it a temporary fix to get you to the garage, or does he think it needs further investigation?

Re: glowplug nightmare - bongo won't start

Hi,

Thanks for the replies. The man from GEM came out and got it going.
I got home ok and have parked back outside the garage and hopefully they'll be open tomorrow.

He tested the glowplugs when the engine was going and said that current was still going through them even when the engine was ...

glowplug nightmare - bongo won't start

Hi,

Currently have a non starting bongo.. The bongo hasn't been starting well recently in thats it taken a few minutes to get it started. HAd a look on here and these would seem to point to the glow plugs going. I took it to our local garage and asked them to replace the glow plugs. They have ...

Re: acceleration

it was very cold yesterday, and the test drive was not particularly long so am interested in that comment about the engine needing some time to warm up. still going to see some more although this one is on the shortlist at the moment.

Re: acceleration

thanks for the replies.

I'm not expecting it to perform like a sports car!! But I'm fairly sure that the other ones we've test driven seemed to have a little more response to the accelerator pedal.

It is an auto model.

acceleration

hello,

well our search for the bongo continues. test drove a 2wd 2.5 diesel one today that was again very nice. the only comment driving wise was that it seemed a bit underpowered. In the test drive I'd put my foot down on the accelerator and the rev counter would shoot up but the actual ...

Re: using water

well, the temp gauge didn't move at all on the test drive. bloke said that he'd never seen any change in temperature no matter where he drove.

think may well walk away as a few more are appearing at the moment but rest of van was spotless and at a reasonable price..

using water

Hi,

newbie here so please go gentle!! my wife and I have found a bongo that we really want to buy. however when speaking to the chap selling, he mentioned that it used about half a cup of water on journeys. He said that this had started happening about a year and a half ago and that it always used ...
