Thanks for reply/update.

Well wd40 cured the belt noise for awhile but its back, so now I will have to book it in somewhere to get fixed.

I may have found a garage who know about these engines, if it pans out I'll report back.

well it appears to be the alternator belts as spraying soapy water onto them stops the noise for a little while.

so thanks for the suggestions, thankfuly its not studs etc

next I need to see if can adjust the belt tension to cure it ... or if it needs new belts

no just checked, and same noise wether on full lock left or right, or in middle position.

Thanks all for suggestions, I did think of getting any length of oil resistant pipe (& a couple of jubilee clips) but I was concerned that the pipe may not be precurved and therefore kink and stop oil flow ... and also the clips would not expland/contract with heat as well as these spring loaded...
