Re: my V6 seems to be using a lot of fuel

Hi,

Just noticed this post. On mine it was my lamba sensor, I monitor my MPG and had noticed it was worse and the car seemed a little more perky. The wire on my 02 sensor had snapped so it was an easy fix.

Hope this has now fixed yours.

Re: Doctor Doolittle: Talking to your Bongo (with a PC)

The only device I saw working on my bongo was a carman scan lite, it was at the LPG fitters and it did read the engine and gearbox ECU's. This was stationary so not sure what extra functionality it did or didn't have. These things are expensive though so probably won't make sense given the limitatio...

Re: V6 Coolant Leak Mystery Problem

Hi there, Used to have a V6 on LPG. Fred at Discount Trucks near Newbury knows alot about your car. Also has the right test gear and a proper code reader. Bit of a trip from you but could be worth it. BPV in Slough also very good, more on the LPG side but familiar with petrol bongos too. Between the...

Re: Help with LPG install problems

Hi, Sorry to hear you are having issues. Firstly how did you pay for the conversion, credit card gives you some good redress should it come to that. As Simon said check it's been registered on the drivelpg site, you should also have changed your V5 and told your insurance. The LPG association are no...

Re: help V6 Diagnostics

Hello John, I replied to you PM the other day. Real shame you are having issues. You can test the lambda sensor theory by disconnecting it. The bongo passed an MOT with flying colours with it disconnected due to a broken wire and ran fine, albeit using a bit more fuel which led me to find the broken...

Re: V6 Fluid Container under Driver's Seat

Hi,

One thing I'd say is don't fill it right up to the top, it expands when it gets warm. I don't have my bongo anymore but on many cars the levels are marked hot and cold. If you don't have that I'd guess you need to check the level when the engine is warm.

Re: V6 Dexters Flashlube System

Hi, On the flashlube system, the recommended dose is 1ml of lubricant oil to 1 litre of fuel burned. So if you burn 1000 litres of fuel then you should use 1000ml (or 1 litre if my brain still works) of lubricant. Opinions vary on the need to use a lubricant on this engine. My view is that so long a...

Re: V6 hoses

I had a V6 for a number of years and agree with the comments above. Keep a special eye on the two small hoses that are under the drivers door leading to the rear heater matrix. They are exposed to the elements more and on mine one failed whilst it was parked up. After a few years I did change all of...

Hi,

Somewhere hard to get at:

Engine code and number are stamped on rear of cylinder block,
above flywheel.

Re: Considering fitting Eberspacher in place of rear heater

Hi Simon, Ebay germany is a good source for the petrol heaters, they seem more common there. I did in the past buy a water eberspacher petrol, plan was to use it as an engine pre-heater with an additional 12v water pump. Didn't do it in the end. Regarding the safety, you should be fine so long as th...

Re: New Shape 1999 V6 Idling Speed

Hi, Tightening it clockwise will decrease the revs. As Simon has said so long as you do things gradually in stages you can easily return to where it was. Make sure the engine is fully warmed up before you change it, and then test it gear and with the AC on and off to be sure it settles in the best p...

Re: Oil type for the V6 engine...

I always found mine was best on a good quality 15/40 semi synthetic.

There's alot of debate and info out there on the best grade to use but I found this worked best.

Always use a genuine oil filter if you can.

Re: New Shape 1999 V6 Idling Speed

Hi,

Under the drivers seat, towards the rear of the inlet manifold is an air screw. This adjusts the tickover speed.

Re: 1999 new shape V6

Hi there, I had a V6 with side conversion. Found that you could tip the seat back enough to check the level, I used a small offcut of wood as a prop to ensure the seat didn't fall down on my head !! Simple and easy. Anything more like changing plugs/air filter I'd just remove the bolts and take the ...

Re: Added value of LPG

As with all such things it always pays to shop around. Make sure you use on-line resources such as petrolprices and don't forget local calor centres too. That way as the prices fluctuate (as they always do) you can be sure you are getting the best deal. Near me both stations that do LPG go up and do...
