Re: auto gearbox oil leak

Just a quick update on this, mainly for future reference if anyone gets the same issue. If faced with a leaking gearbox (between box and Torque Converter) and the question is do I:

A) Change the seal
B) Replace the box

The answer is B!

2nd time lucky, she's back on the ramps. Ho hum :-(

Re: auto gearbox oil leak

Hi Mike, I saw that post and I also got the guy who's working on my Bongo to read through it but he's still not clear on the best course of action - I don't think what he's seeing exactly matches Alacrity's list. As far as he can see the converter neck shows no sign of damage and he's also concerned ...

Re: auto gearbox oil leak

Just a quick update on this.. Gearbox number is BM711 (another number stamped next to it is 5766428) if that helps.

Guy at the Garage in two minds - try changing the seal and see if that fixes it. If it does great. If not then I'm in for another lot of labour plus the cost of the replacement box ...

Re: auto gearbox oil leak

Folks.. I'm facing a similar problem. Auto box on a '95 AWD Diesel. Ground to a halt and RAC man topped up the oil and it came straight back out again. It's up on the ramps at my local garage now and he says it looks like the seal between the Torque Converter and the Box. He's not sure whether ...

Re: AFT Roof won't go up. Need a good Bongo techie in South

If the roof/motor is jammed, you can get the roof up far enough to remove the motors. It's tricky but Allan has done it a few times, without breaking the roof. I've copied these instructions from Allan's website:
Roof jammed and the usual fixes haven't worked? If the roof motors will not operate ...

Re: AFT Roof won't go up. Need a good Bongo techie in South

Hi Julian.. any idea which pins? My mate @Dodgey was going to put a meter across that cable to see if any input power was being received but couldn't easily work out the pin-outs.

Cheers, Spencer

Re: AFT Roof won't go up. Need a good Bongo techie in South

I would give Bell Hill a ring at Norton St. Philip near Bath. I have used bongo specialist closer to me, but Bell Hill always sort out my problems that others can't. They are not the cheapest for parts, but seem to stock everything for every type of bongo, so get the job done hassle free.
I am sure ...

Yeah, tried giving it a good shove upwards from inside the bus.. no joy. Might give it another go just in case though.

AFT Roof won't go up.

Hi folks.. with just a few weeks to go before my first camping jaunt of the year my AFT roof won't go up :-( It beeps but nothing happens and I can't hear anything - i.e. no sign of the motor starting or even trying. A mate of mine (and regular contributor here @dodgey) has a had a quick look at the ...

Ah yes, that's a typo.. I was thinking 215 because the existing tyres are and the standard rears are so I know they'll fit.. Presumably 225 should fit too?

The other thing I'm trying to get my head round is not getting a tyre size that suits the road but buggers up off road grip. I don't expect ...

Hi guys, I'm new here! I've just got a 4WD Bongo with 17" alloys and am trying to work out the right size tyres to fit. The current ones at 215/45/17 look too small so I imagine my gearing is way too low and the speedo miles out!

Can anyone confirm what size the bog standard wheels & tyres are? I ...
