Re: Vanished v6 Timing Marks
Yes I need no encouragement to leave it until warmer weather. I have seen on the V6 running problems thread a suggestion to clean the pulley and redo the marks.
I think I looked very carefully at the pulley as I turned it round but nothing showed up. Is the mark on the circumference anywhere the ...

Re: V6 Starting Problem
Maybe also a starter motor issue. The click may have been the solenoid engaging but the starter motor did not move. This may have been because the battery was lacking oomph or the starter is beginning to show signs of old age. Top up your battery with a decent charger which will help in the cold ...

Vanished v6 Timing Marks
So new (to me!) distributor in hand along with timing lamp etc I put the bongo on ramps and moved most of the snow out of the way to give access. I wanted to check the timing first before removing the existing distributor so I could put it all back as it was before.
First issue was that the battery ...

Re: A lot of noise, but from where? V6
I had read somewhere the diagnostic plug needs to have a short placed in it so that the ecu can take a new setting.
I ran my v8 range rovers between 9 and 12 degrees advance for lpg with a magic box which defaulted to normal for petrol. I had assumed the same would have been required for the Bongo ...

Re: A lot of noise, but from where? V6
Used dizzy arrived today so fitting soon. Any issues around fitting? I have the workshop manual arriving soon and will be able to strobe the timing.
I'll search the forum for suggestions for timing advance on lpg.

Re: Getting to know my V6 but what is normal!
Thanks I'll have a go with the tray.
I have to report that the coolant level today was about 1cm below full at cold. I taped a plastic milk bottle to the expansion tank vent hose to capture any lost fluid. I drove the normal route and coming off the the fast road the fans cut in twice. Second time ...

Re: Getting to know my V6 but what is normal!
Thanks. I have decided to get the coolant checked for exhaust gases and have one more go at bleeding just to make sure.
Is the big cover the same as on the diesel? I can't find it on any of the lush projects diagrams.

Re: Getting to know my V6 but what is normal!
New cap on expansion tank and radiator! I am still pondering whether the lack of an undertray is exposing the underside of the engine to excessive cooling in this cold weather thus preventing the thermostat from opening sooner.

Re: Getting to know my V6 but what is normal!
OK I may have mistaken the black object below the tank. Anyway the expansions tank vents via the hose and the black object below was wet, so no mystery over the source of liquid.

I have had a look for covers, I think it is just the main big one which is missing. I suppose a breakers may be the place for one.

Getting to know my V6 but what is normal!
So every other post is about overheating. I bought a V6 to get away from the trip to the headshop..

Re: A lot of noise, but from where? V6
If I were to remove the distributor are there any issues to watch out for? Also where are the timing marks and what should they be set for given I'm running on LPG? I suppose though that the timing is fine now so identifying the marks will show what the current setting is.

Re: A lot of noise, but from where? V6
Thanks for the replies the belts were taken off and the distributor considered to be the culprit. So I think it is an ebay investment time.
