I have a diesel Bongo, will the bracket I see on eBay be OK for a heater in this space? What is the thing in the red oblong?

Thanks again Geoff. I'll try that next, I also checked the continuity for the +ve at X20, it's also 6.6v on both sides of it.

Thanks for that, I thought there would be 12v on the end of the +ve wire, I can understand a drop when it goes through the variable resistor. This is a 2.5 Diesel, 'P' 1997.
The gauge is as far to the left as it will go. It's covering the 'E' symbol. No movement at all when 12v is put on the wire ...
