Re: V6 cranking but not starting - run out of ideas!

An update for anybody who might be interested... Simon at Contract Mechanics in Harbury, Worcester, refurbished my engine and made another small repair on the chassis and got it MOT'ed for £1880. He found all sorts of damage to the engine, not all of it from the snapped cambelt (something or other h...

Re: V6 cranking but not starting - run out of ideas!

What do people think - is a replacement unit a sensible move? If so, any tips on what I should be looking for or what questions I should be asking? Of course buying a used engine comes with plenty of risk so I appreciate that there is no way I can be sure that I'll be getting something of quality. ...

Re: V6 cranking but not starting - run out of ideas!

Thought I'd post an update... the garage replaced the timing belt but couldn't get any movement from the engine. On closer inspection they could see that 2 of the valves were damaged but tell me they cannot be sure about any more damage without carrying out extensive work. I've been advised that at ...

Re: V6 cranking but not starting - run out of ideas!

I had a major oil leak at the end of 2016 and as a result the engine came out. I was told, and paid for, all seals gaskets and belts to be replaced. So if it is the cam belt then it has only done about 25k miles. However, the garage that did the work did not put it back together properly - something...

Re: V6 cranking but not starting - run out of ideas!

Yes go to the start and then scroll right, the entire manual is in there. The X-nn connectors are all at the rear of the manual before the index. OK so X-35 is a 12 way connector? And the wires from the crank sensor are blue & Green? I still can work out how you know which terminals the crank s...

Re: V6 cranking but not starting - run out of ideas!

Silly question maybe but is the rotor arm turning when you crank the motor? An excellent question Bongolia and no it does not move! Looks like it is the timing belt after all #-o. I feel a right chump. My fault for not checking properly right at the start. Time I handed it over to some professional...

Re: V6 cranking but not starting - run out of ideas!

Is there a component key anywhere for the diagrams? You can work most of them out by the symbols & number of wires but there are still a few that can be confusing. Also on the components & multi 'X' connectors is there any way to know the pin numbers they connect to? For example the 2 wires...

Re: V6 cranking but not starting - run out of ideas!

I figured the next step was to check earth continuity to the sensor, so I backprobed the 2 wires leading to the sensor (one at a time - I did not know which was earth) and created a local earthing point. But still it won't start. I Have never worked on this engine but what do you mean by sensor ear...

Apologies - no idea how I managed to create the post twice. So is this thread the one that is remaining active?

Re: V6 cranking but not starting - run out of ideas!

I forgot a bit which might be important. I hooked up an LED to the OBD1 and got a P1521 fault code which, according to the handy Engine Diagnostics factsheet from this site (available from the members area), is a VRIS Solenoid '1' Circuit fault. However after reading this post (viewtopic.php?t=55204...

You will need a Browser running and enabled for Flash to see the diagrams.
Thanks for this - I'm sure it'll be useful once I wrap my head around it!

Hi all, This is my first post but I have been using this site for years. I have a 2001 v6 bongo with LPG conversion. its a JAL import & camper conversion. We broke down on the M3 suddenly and without warning. No warning lights on the dash. Car cranks fine but won't start. I have been troubleshoo...
