Re: EGR mystery ...

Thank you very much! This is so informative. From reading your PDF, it's clear now that there definitely are vac pipes in the wrong places.

I'm hoping to get on to this tomorrow, then get onto tackling the leak on the fuel pump!

Many thanks!

Re: EGR mystery ...

Jules, this might not have been such a long shot. I noticed yesterday that the pipe you question, from the forward left of the EGR solenoid, isn't of the same rigidity or circumference as the others. And it's connected to a metal line, which looked awfully to me like a fuel line. I'll also get a pic...

Re: EGR mystery ...

This is awesome. Thank you! And your arrowed picture will prove to be more than useful, I'll explain below. The plot has thickened. I contacted the previous owner to find out exactly when it had gone wrong, because something just wasn't adding up. Turns out, when it went in for loads of welding work...

Re: EGR mystery ...

So I saw this last night. The pipe numbered 93-5104 (top-right of page) definitely isn't 170mm long, doesn't have a one way valve and goes somewhere under the engine block. I don't know where it's supposed to go. Does anyone know what component does 1312 13-341 refer to?

Re: EGR mystery ...

So, to recap; If I have the vacuum pipe connected both ends to the EGR and solenoid, it runs really really bad. If I have either end disconnected, it runs beautifully. I've had the EGR off and cleaned it up, it seems like the diaphragm works okay. I pressed it up and put a finger over the vacuum pip...

Re: EGR mystery ...

I'm so confused by all this talk of one way valves. Mine doesn't appear to have any stall going to or from the actual EGR valve. I assume, judging by your contributions, that it should have ... ? Re: EGR mystery ...

Yep I agree that is the part that the vac pipe goes to. Wow! good job it's not one of those that's broken, not at that price! Ironically, I've come to the conclusion that this is definitely the part that is not working. Trying to source it cheaper! After another hour of diagnostic effort, this is t...

Re: EGR mystery ...

For what it's worth, I think this is the part.

Re: EGR mystery ...

Thanks Jules,

The problem is that it only runs rough when the vacuum pipe from EGR to solenoid is plugged in. I'll have another play about with it when I get home this evening to see if I can further diagnose it.

Thank you all for all your advice.

Cheers!

Re: EGR mystery ...

And herein lies the problem. I'm all up for blanking it off after the MOT but I can't do that until I diagnose the first issue to get it through an MOT in the first place. It must be something to do with the valve/solenoid because that's where the vacuum hose goes to. With it unplugged it runs a dre...

Re: EGR mystery ...

I've heard such rumours. But would it still pass an MOT on emissions?

Re: EGR mystery ...

I've checked the 6mm vacuum pipe. Not blocked, so it must be the sensor / solenoid thats faulty. I just don't know what this part is at all. The part has three 6mm pipes coming off of it. One is coming from the EGR valve. One (very short) 6mm pipe goes to another similar looking sensor behind it. Th...

Re: EGR mystery ...

Nice one, cheers Geoff.

Okay, I've had a look at your link but can't see the hose coming from the top of the valve. From memory, I could see that the 6mm comes from the top of the valve and is only about 6 inches long and goes to what seems like a sensor. Maybe it's the sensor rather than the valve?

EGR mystery ...

Hello Bongo Fury, I'm a soon to be (tomorrow) fellow bongonaut! After many years, I eventually got around to owning my very own Bongo. I'm very excited about it, but mine has come with, from what I can tell, is a singular issue. I'm driving a 1996 (N) 2.5l TD. I thought that EGR needed looking at fr...
