Re: Valve stem oil seals

Hi guys, sorry for the long delay. My son blew up his VW camper and has been using my Bongo while we have been sourcing and installing a replacement engine on his. I have the Bongo back and I'm back to using it on a pretty regular basis and note that the smoke on cold start up and very lumpy idle is...

Re: AirCon Compressor Removal

So, I bit the bullet and went along to the place where I get it MOT'd as they have an A/C machine. the guy there could not be more helpful and explained that even if the system showed empty which mine did it would still have some pressure in it and opening any of the hoses could be dangerous or at t...

AirCon Compressor Removal

Hi Guys, my compressor on my 97 diesel has seized. I've located a replacement from Bongo Spares and all the numbers match up so I'm ready to go. I was expecting to find information about how to replace the compressor but I've searched all areas and as far as I can tell there is none. Can anybody tel...

Re: Virus Malware Be aware

Well done you for your vigilance and for bringing it to our attention. Shame on your insurance company though if they are aware of a virus in their system and still mailing out without warning their customers.

Re: Bolt/thread size - See Pic

Bit difficult to tell from the picture but are they the rear seat belt mount bolts? I don't know the configuration of your Bongo so don't know if you have rear belts fitted. Obviously it was originally an 8 seater so not sure if your one still has the back row of seats. if they do prove to be seat b...

Re: Door light not activating with the doors

If the door switch is there, down at the bottom edge near the step in and is working, it may be corroded up. try a bit of your favourite spray on the button whilst pushing it in and out may do the trick. I think it is just a phillips screw to remove them so you could give them a clean up if this doe...

Re: Temperature control backlighting

If I remember if its the early version you'll need two tools that you would use to remove a radio and slide these into the slots in the 4 corners the control panel even then does not come forward very much. if you are feeling brave you can disconnect the control cables at the other end i.e there the...

Re: Front washers not working...

Apologies BongoBongo123 and Geoff. When I checked the washer wiring this morning I realised that the front pump has had some wiring replaced and has had a short extension lead fitted terminating in terminal block the same as the one going into the rear washer pump so sorry for misleading you. Someth...

Re: Water ingress along top edge of tailgate lights?

That's quite some leak! I've used Captain Tolley's to some good effect. had a VW T25 before Bongo life and they are notorious for leaks around windscreens etc. you may need to build it up with several applications if the crack is bad. https://seamarknunn.com/acatalog/Captain-Tolleys-Creeping-Crack-C...

Re: V6 cranking but not starting - run out of ideas!

If the engine is turning over easily at the moment then I'd suspect that the belt has just snapped as they do. Out of interest I wonder what the mileage is on your Bongo as I believe the usual lifetime of a cambelt is <>80,000 miles. Do you have any service history to say if it has been changed? In ...

Re: Front washers not working...

When you get to the pump after taking out the washer bottle you can substitute the connections to test the wiring to the pumps. if you switch connectors and the front pump works when operating the rear washers then it must be the front pump wiring and visa versa if it still doesn't work when plugged...

Well as long as it gets you there. there are few other places better to break down I'm sure and if it ain't broke don't try and fix it always rings true for me. Have a nice few days away.

Re: Same engine?

From experience the Ranger head does not have the all important 3 way hose connector needed to bleed the diesel. but this can be bought from the shop and its a fairly easy replacement. I have a Ranger head on my Bongo and that was the only difference I found. I did not check for internal dimensions,...

Re: London Ultra Low Emission Zone - any technical fixes?

Sorry can't help you on that but if you do get it solved I'd love to hear from you as I also live on the outskirts and occasionally drift into the north and south circulars. I do have another car I can use if I absolutely have to but as far as I'm aware the older Bongo TDi will not pass the ULEZ tes...

Re: Strange noise with key in ignition

putting the two incidents together could it be a lose battery terminal or bad earth? was the heater fan on at the time? could something have jammed that up? do you have the warning buzzer connected as sometimes that gives off a peculiar noise instead of buzzing.
