S'ok i fixed it.
The relay was wired incorrectly. I rewired and all is good again.
It was wired so that the switching provided by the sensor was bypassed causing it to run whenever the ignition was on.

Cooling Fan Wiring
Hi,
I have a 2001 2.5L Diesel Bongo. The front cooling fans are on from turning the ignition on.
This is a full conversion and I think the wiring for the fans has been altered (This is my first Bongo so have nothing to compare it to).
There is a relay on the drivers side that has a hot wire ...

Re: Cooling Fan Always On
Think this solves it.
After waiting for the engine to cool down, I have a big fat 0 ohms between the connectors of the sensor.
Thanks all.

Re: Cooling Fan Always On
No I haven't tested it because I assume that I'd need to take it out and drop it in hot water. I'm not in a position to drain the water out.
Or am I totally wrong on this?
I know it's simply a switch. I guess I could wait for the engine to cool and test between the connectors?

Re: Cooling Fan Always On
Thanks Teenmal,
I've found the sensor which looks fine with no heat damage and traced it to a relay under the dash, then to a couple of wires under the bonnet. One goes to earth and the other to a set of what I think (but could be wrong) are 6 relays deep down to the left of the radiators. It's ...

Re: Cooling Fan Always On
It's not the aircon. The angled fan in front of the engine and the radiator one. I'm out at the moment but I'll have a lcloser ook when I get home.
Hopefully it's the sensor.

Re: Cooling Fan Always On
Yes it was present. I didn't really think too much of it as I've never owned something like this before. It was only when the mechanic pointed it out that I kicked myself for not looking into it more.

Cooling Fan Always On
Just had my Bongo three weeks now and the cooling fan is always on from when I first turn the key.
I'm assuming that either someone has bypassed a sensor or the sensor is faulty. Any advice on where to start with this? Where is the sensor on the engine?
Cheers,
Nige

Re: Just bought and now I have a couple of problems :-(
Wow! this blew up whilst I was out there scratching my head and pulling it apart to figure this out.
Turns out that some fool had tapped into one of the sensor wires to use as ground for an old stereo. The one that it came with didn't use this as it wasn't actually wired in, just filling the hole ...

Thanks for the replies.
I'm an electrician so pretty good at fault finding with a meter. I was just missing the wiring diagrams.
Cheers
