ATF leak

Hi All,

I have a leak from this pipe (drivers side, 1996 2.5 TD automatic). Photo here:

As far as I can tell, it is the gearbox oil pipe labelled as 19-9A0 here:

Re: Mystery wiring, only live with headlights

Hi Guys... I am still none-the-wiser with this, despite further investigation. A real Bongo mystery.... In any case, things seem to be running fine. It has to be something lights related, but no problems in all the essentials as far as I can tell. I assume I will realise one day what it was, when I ...

Re: Mystery wiring, only live with headlights

It is thin wire, so my thinking is that it probably is used to send a signal to something to say the headlights are on, or it is feeding something relatively low power, but only when the headlights are on. What things need to know if the headlights are on or not? This is why I thought of the fog ...

Re: Mystery wiring, only live with headlights

Hi Geoff - Possibly, but this also seems to work ok (well, tests ok, at least). I can check that. Also, that wouldn't be live controlled by headlight switch?

Mystery wiring, only live with headlights

Hi All -

I realise the answer to this might be "depends who wired the van", but does anyone else have these two wires that go from under the bonnet through behind the main battery into under the steering column, next to the main ignition loom (red/black + black thin wires in pic)? They look after ...

Re: Glow plug relay wiring

Yes that looks very much like low compression could be causing a Bit of this problem. An engine with Good compression should start without the aid of glow/heater plugs in this weather, unless you are in a cold place?.

OK - thanks. I did wonder. We are in Yorkshire, which is not *that* cold ...

Re: Glow plug relay wiring

Sorry to ask another question on this, but I wondered generally about the use of the glow plugs on the Bongo. I was a bit surprised that the van refused to start at all with no power to the plugs, even in relatively mild ambient temperatures. Is it the case that the Bongo engine always needs the ...

Re: Glow plug relay wiring

Thanks again Geoff. Have found an original Bongo (used) replacement relay for £32 with 3 month warranty. Decided to risk that rather than £90 for a new one. I guess there is no telling whether it might also fail at some point in future. Might try and seal it up a bit better as a preventative measure ...

Re: Glow plug relay wiring

Thanks for the help guys.

Geoff - your diagram confirmed my thinking about the wiring.

So, I removed the relay and then ran a fly lead from the battery +ve to the glow plug feed lead that comes off the relay... and the van started.

So, it is a knackered relay I assume.

Having look at this post ...

Glow plug relay wiring

Hi All,

We have a 1996 2.5L diesel Ford Freda. After having some starting issues (starter turns, but engine won't fire), I have been investigating the glow plug electrics. I want to eliminate problems here before I remove seat (side conversion) etc to get to plugs themselves.

The fusable link ...
