Re: Parasitic drain

Thanks, Geoff.
I've pulled the plug out the back of the radio so not that. Fuse 1 is where I'm concentrating as fuse 8 also has a GPS tracker on it with a battery backup.
Are there any other suspects on fuse 1 that may be likely?

Parasitic drain

Hello all. I'm trying to trace the cause of fairly rapid leisure battery depletion. I have 5 fuses (interior fuse box) through the leisure battery and the following 2 show a drain: Fuse 1 .118A Fuse 8 .1A Total drain .22A or thereabouts. Nothing switched on, radio disconnected. I have a GPS device o...

Re: Timing belt change

The maxim that you should always change the water pump when changing the cambelt only applies to engines where the cambelt drives the water pump. This is because the tension on a cambelt places a high sideways load on the water pump bearing and if it seizes it snaps the belt or throws it off. This i...

Re: HELP, V6 coolant bleed by garage

I find the trick is in the fill not so much the bleed. The bleed becomes the focus if the fill isn't done carefully as air is trapped from too fast a 'top down' fill. I start by removing the drivers side engine block hose and filling with funnel until it overflows then put the hose back on the stub....

Re: Facelift Fog Lights

Absolutely. I have a relay, wire, switch and my trusty Fluke sitting here all dressed up and ready to go. Trouble is, I'm a sucker for the factory look and E2-04 is sitting there laughing at me. I could really do with a look under the bonnet of another facelift...I suspect there is another relay loc...

Re: Facelift Fog Lights

Thanks, Geoff. That plug in the picture is after the relay, surely? It's the feed to the lamps. This is inside the dotted area and on the car . There must be somewhere that the option loom plugs into? Otherwise how does the switch wiring meet the plug in the picture without splicing the loom in the ...

Re: Facelift Fog Lights

So, I had the bumper off and I found this sucker: https://i.imgur.com/JF9909k.jpg That is the connector for the factory front fogs so parts of the 'missing' loom are there. So, we have a connector for the switch, a connector for the fogs, no connector for the relay. So where does the sub loom plug i...

Re: Facelift Fog Lights

Thanks, Geoff. Given that the switch wiring is in there, do you happen to know where in the loom it exits for the optional loom? There must be somewhere for the additional fog loom to plug in.

Facelift Fog Lights

I've got hold of a set of 323 fog lights for my facelift Bongo but can't find any wiring in there other than for the switch. In the relay diagrams for the earlier model, the fog light relay is the one at the front of the bank of 4 on the nearside inner wing but there is no spare connector in the loo...

Re: 2000 W Reg Bongo v6 failing emissions mot test

I'd go back to basics with this one. What colour are your plugs? Does it feel like it runs rich or lean? A lean condition may show as pinking under load. Check your cam and ignition timing. Have you had a recent cam belt change? Check your compressions next. I'm seeing a lot of this kind of thing wi...

Re: "Pinking" on my 2.0lt petrol bongo

Check your ignition timing. It's in the service book but in Japanese so I can't tell at what mileage. Unlike modern cars, no knock sensor or stick coils on Bongo so there is no way to compensate for wear or fuel quality. I suspect it's never checked over here hence folk having issues as they get old...

Re: Oil Sump

Make sure it is the sump first. Real leaks from here are rare but phantom ones are common. The trouble is usually at the front and the oil migrates backwards along the seam and looks like a sump leak. Can't help with the diesel but if it's a sealant like the 2.0 then Threebond 701B is the Rolls Royc...

Re: V6 Lumpy idle or normal for model?

I had a Mitsubishi FTO Mivec 2.0 V6. Japanese tax bands are 1.5l - <2.0 then 2.0 - <2.5 and so on. Means you get some weird marketing attempts for the given engine size. Also means our Bongos got the 2.5 V6 rather than the 3.0 in the 929 for global markets. A 2.0 V6 is an abomination really as there...

Re: Why do brakes squeal ?

Sounds counter-intuitive but it's not the friction, it's the vibration. The vibes cause the components to 'ring' at a certain frequency. Like a tuning fork. The squeal shim or rubber pad or grease is there to cushion the vibes and stop the squealing.

Re: Why do brakes squeal ?

It's the sliding surfaces where the pad 'ears' connect with the caliper body. There are stainless steel clips here which need cleaning until shiny. Then the crusty surfaces where they sit need scraping or dremelling back to smooth metal. Then re-assemble with a pad that uses a proper squeal shim pre...
