Thanks both. It occurs to me that if I bring a 4th pole with me it would be easier to have the tarp standing up for itself.

We use the Base Seconds with a tarp attached to the van. Works well for us and provides a large dry/shady eating area, and covered access to the tent from the van without blocking the side door.
