Re: Cutting out - air in fuel line?
Thanks for the pointers. Had a quick look at things at the weekend. I now suspect that the leak is from the banjo bolt as I think I saw a trickle of diesel from by it when I primed it using the pump on top of the fuel filter. I'm wondering whether I've either lost one of the washers while cleaning t...

Cutting out - air in fuel line?
After sitting unused in my garage for about 7 years, my diesel Bongo has been back on the on the road for nearly a year. The only problem that I've been encountering is fine particulates blocking the banjo filter. I fitted a 40 micron glass filter after the fuel filter hoping it would eventual resol...

Re: Bongo cuts out and then won't start - HELP
Did you get to the bottom of this?
I've just had a problem with my Diesel Bongo cutting out shortly after starting. I'm suspecting air getting into in the fuel line - possibly in the fuel filter assembly.

Re: Fine dirt in banjo filter
maybe worth dropping the tank, sort it once and for all, change the short rubber pipes on the top of the tank while your there, 20 years old rubber and all that. if you take out the tank you could even do the filter on the end of the pickup pipe if you go in through the gauge opening. Dropping the ...

Re: Fine dirt in banjo filter
Diesel in damp conditions can develop a diesel fungus. A problem in boats when unused over winter. It causes filters to block up more rapidly. Loads of advice through Google. One example that may help you see if it applies. https://www.bellperformance.com/blog/bid/45495/8-Signs-of-Diesel-Fuel-Conta...

Good point. It looks good externally but would be easy to swap it for a new hose.Gasy wrote:Is there a bit of rubber hose after the fuel filter

Fine dirt in banjo filter
After sitting in my garage for about 5 years, to get my Bongo back on the road as well as changing the starter battery, one of the things I did was pump out the old cloudy diesel (attaching a pump just before the fuel filter), and replaced the fuel filter. After adding about 20l of fresh diesel and ...

Re: Sluggish Acceleration
yes anything like that should be fine, please be aware that most of these are flammable though, inside will be ok, once it starts to move just keep re applying until your happy its free. have you tested the actuator. Success. The spring is a lot stronger than I expected and I can move the wastegate...

Re: Checking the Cooling system etc
Had the bongo MOTd and serviced including coolant flushed, refilled and bled by someone who knows Bongos. On flattish roads travelling at 50-60mph/2k-2.5k rpm and going easy on the acceleration, the engine temp seems to be a steady 90C. Hammering it up a hill with foot down it gets up to around 96. ...

Re: Diesel loss of power.
Tightened up the fuel cap and west for another test drive tonight. Everything seemed fine so I'm guessing that the problem was the dirt in the filter under the banjo bolt.

Re: Diesel loss of power.
I was tempted to turn the van upside down last night, but managed to get the filter out and back in the right way round tonight with the help of the laparoscopic forceps. Loosened off the fuel cap, and went out for another test drive and I think everything is ok. Thanks for the pointers. I'll tighte...

Re: Diesel loss of power.
Got round to removing the filter under the banjo bolt last night. While it didn’t look like a fishing net full of pondweed, there certainly looked to be debris in the fine mesh, so I cleaned it up. Unfortunately it managed to slip out my fingers when putting it back and it’s managed to go down the h...

Re: Diesel loss of power.
Ta. I’ve managed to move the actuator with pliers and it springs back fine, so I think the wastegate is fine and my suspicions have moved on elsewhere. When I drove the van to get a service and MOT (it’s first trip on the road in five years), it seemed fine. The problem with power only became appare...

Re: Diesel loss of power.
Brief update. -Tightened the pipe that runs form the inlet manifold to the top of the fuel pump. -Removed the top of the fuel pump to check for/remove any oil on the diaphragm – was a small amount (1-2 teaspoons). -Removed fuel feed from fuel filter and blew back into tank to clean filter in tank. -...

Re: Diesel loss of power.
Thanks. I'll try that lot at the weekend.
By 'take off the top' do you mean the top of the fuel pump?
I was poking round the engine tonight and noticed that the wastegate actuator rod would not move by hand. Is that normal? The engine was cold.
Thanks
Tony
