Re: AFT (Roof) Refurb

I used a palm sander to tackle the flat areas and elbow grease for the fiddly bits. There were some tiny holes in the fibreglass gel coat that needed filling so I used some filler primer spay to sort those out. I made a few passes with increasing paper grit with the final pass using 1000 grit and pl...

Re: AFT (Roof) Refurb

Ollymuk: I seem to remember getting the roof seal from eBay. I can’t point you in the exact direction since it was some years ago since I purchased it, but if you search eBay you’ll what you are looking for. Good hunting.

Re: Restoring a tired auto free top

Hi, You might want to take a look at this topic: https://igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=74373&hilit=atf+refurb If the polishing does not do it for you then a repaint might be worth considering. There are links to photos of my Greece Bongo after I painted it with a roller. Se...

Re: AFT (Roof) Refurb

It wasn't too tricky. Rustoleum paint is sold in RAL colours. I purchased a RAL colour chip chart from Amazon and found the colour that matched the closest. Went to my local paint specialist and ordered a tin with the RAL colour reference. Turned out to be near perfect match. Result \:D/ I was surpr...

Re: AFT (Roof) Refurb

Thanks. Took a lot of sanding initially and between coats. I had to abort one top coat as it rained and made the finish go matt, sanded that one down and waited of a warm no rain day to paint the final coat you see here. I was particularly pleased with the colour match. When I removed the rubber sea...

Re: AFT (Roof) Refurb

Hi I repainted the AFT on my 96 bongo last year. Used Rustoleum paint and found a colour that matched the original Greece Green. Lots of rubbing down and used a mohair roller to apply the paint. The biggest problem was finding 2 - 3 days without the threat of rain!! Replaced the rubber seal at the s...

Re: Project - Retrim and new paint

I'm just about to paint my Greece Green Bongo AFT with Rustoleum and a roller, just waiting for a rain free day this week. I'll post some pictures for reference once it is done. I have sourced a new seal which arrived the other day, when I removed the old one I noted that fitting the new one will be...

Re: Removing Decals

I recently removed the lower large silver panels on my Bongo to be replace with new ones, they were faded and streaky and generally dated the van. I did some reading and got myself a toffee or caramel wheel and started with that. After the first panel I realised it wasn't going to be a quick job. Th...

That's great, thanks for the responses. Now I know.

I'm sure I'll find a use for them.

Can anyone tell me what these are for?

I am a proud new owner of a 96 V6 Bongo and while exploring all the features I noticed these rings bolted to the nearside roof hiding under the AFT. They are only on the one side and look quite factory fitted.

See picture link.

Any ideas?
