Re: 2.0 2005 petrol cutting out

This is exactly what was happening on my V6. In my case, it was definitely a blockage in the fuel vent. Eventually the vacuum made the petrol tank suck in until it bent the fuel pickup and reduced the capacity by 20 litres!

We solved this by drilling a tiny hole in the petrol cap. Then the engine ...

Re: V6 Petrol AFT - Weird Startup Problem

All went well at the festivals, including some damp weather. Started every time.

Now I have to find out why the leisure battery fuse went :)

I also have to find how my water tanks was empty by the second day (usually lasts a week).

Re: V6 Petrol AFT - Weird Startup Problem

Hi,

I believe the problem has been resolved now. Rob at Freelance Mazda Chatham discovered that there was something up with the brand-new distributor cap. Mazda sent a new one and it seems to be ok now, although we haven't had really damp weather yet. Fingers crossed. I have more festivals to play ...

Re: V6 Petrol AFT - Weird Startup Problem

Ho Bongolia,

I have given up hope of having the Bongo at Glastonbury. I have had words with the powers that be and I can take my lowly Skoda and a tent into the backstage area. I had visions of having to traipse across muddy fields with all of my gear :)

Thanks so much for your detailed ...

Re: V6 Petrol AFT - Weird Startup Problem

Hi Bongolia,

It is a non start at the moment and I don't have the old distro, the garage kept it.

Re: V6 Petrol AFT - Weird Startup Problem

Hi Wnkanoby,

I did try that. When the breather was blocked there was a massive intake of air when undoing the petrol cap, but it is ok now.

Re: V6 Petrol AFT - Weird Startup Problem

Distributor was replaced due to the Bongo stopping when in traffic, the diagnostic pointed to a bistro sensor problem.

After if was fixed, I found out that the breather in the petrol tank was blocked and it was sucking in the petrol tank like a squashed coke can.

My mate took off the petrol tank ...

Re: V6 Petrol AFT - Weird Startup Problem

Hi Bongolia, I have PM'd you my engine info.

I will see if I can get to the air idle screw, although if it is on driver-side it's pretty hard to get to due to my conversion.

Re: V6 Petrol AFT - Weird Startup Problem

Should have said before, but it has a brand new Mazda distributor, from Japan, which cost me £600!

Have tried WD40 on the crankshaft sensor as this has solved the problem once before when it was very damp and wouldn't start. I also have had that puddle problem, once on a very busy A1!

I am now ...

Re: V6 Petrol AFT - Weird Startup Problem

Ok, I have done the fuse thing to no avail. Also wiggled a lot of contacts / wires in hope, but so far nothing.

Re: V6 Petrol AFT - Weird Startup Problem

Thanks for both of your replies, I will go though all of the fuses (apart from the main one). I have the fuse diagrams downloaded from here. There doesn't seem to be one specific for the fuel pump, is that one separate?

V6 Petrol AFT - Weird Startup Problem

Hello, I'd like your thoughts on this please, any help very much appreciated.

I have been getting an intermittent starting problem. Engine sometimes turns over but doesn't fire up. When it does this no amount of persuading can get it going. The AA man drew a blank with it.

I had a local mechanic ...

Re: Extreme Windscreen wipers

Hello, I have had this problem too. Yesterday though the wipers stopped wiping altogether. The motor was working so I worked out it was mechanical. The arm has come loose from the rotating bit. I put it back and the wipers are back working. I think though that there should be a plastic bit to go ...
