Handbrake

I need to sort the handbrake. I thought I had it figured as one of the pins had broken that holds the shoe in place and the spring below has come off. Put it all back together, used the adjusters inside the drum to adjust until it was rubbing, then backed off one turn. Handbrake still rubbish, used ...

Re: A few bits on the Bongo

Taken the rear wheels off to look at the hand brake. On the offside shoes, one of the bent metal springs has lost its springiness, the pin through it has bent and the longer coil spring below has misshapen and fallen off. Anyone know somewhere where you can get these spring bits from without purchas...

Re: A few bits on the Bongo

Washer pump was easy enough, just tapped the washer pump a few times whilst my lad pulled the stalk.

Brakes next, so it can go for its retest, then sort the other bits along with some bodywork.

A few bits on the Bongo

Ashamedly we've really not used the bongo for the last year or so. The MOT ran out in December and I was to busy to sort it, the Bongo had only done a few miles in the 12 months prior to tha to and has done nothing since December. It started straight up which is a good start. I had a quick check rou...

Re: Engine cranks but wont turn over

Have you checked the battery properly though? The best thing would be to take it to a garage that does free battery testing. However you can take a multimeter reading at rest and then another during cranking. Even fully charging a knackered battery overnight doesn't necessarily help anything. It may...

Re: Engine cranks but wont turn over

If all the mobile mechanic is doing is spraying some easy start in, then I am would start by buying a can of easy start so you can at least replicate what he is doing! Not an ideal solution though and it does need the actual cause fixing first. This time of the year, the bongo should start without g...

Re: Rear fog light 2000 X reg

I prefer to take a feed independent to any other lights, just straight to the switch . How do you then meet this requirement...? only illuminate when dip, main or front fog lamps are lit Ok forget the above, that is the requirement when importing it into the UK, but once it is imported it doesn't h...

Re: Rear fog light 2000 X reg

You could always incorporate a red lamp in the o/s reversing light .. ^^^ this I've done the above. When we got the bongo it has one that dangled underneath, this caught a curb and broke off, so I bought a replacement. When fitting, I found there are multiple mounting holes or broken mounts where p...

Re: Rear fog light 2000 X reg

As has been covered you need the headlights on. You don't need the front fogs on for the rears to work but no harm in then being on. None of the bongos came with rear fogs, so it will always be an aftermarket system. IIRC ours takes a feed from the headlight wire, which goes to the switch. The outpu...

Re: Alternator issues

Bought a 90A refurbished ones in the end. £89.99 delivered and they refund £5 if you send the old one back (they sort the postage) New set of gates belts for the alternator and the Aircon. And a new battery. An hour to fit and most of that was sorting the seized adjuster on the Aircon. It would tigh...

The ones that came are: Gates FleetRunner V-Belt - AVX13x1100HD 8701-16474 (2 of these) Gates V-Belt 6470MC AVX13 x 1000 La Does that all sound ok? The old ones ...

Re: Alternator issues

If you search the posts on here around 2010 time you will find quite a few failures of alternators after around 12 months when lower rated diode packs were used. Yes I don't fancy fitting a lower capacity diode pack, but most of the refurb ones seem to be 80A too. So currently searching for a reaso...
