Re: First trip using the base seconds as an awning

I would agree that a canopy is really useful. There are lots on line that you can buy e.g http://www.the-bus-shelter.com , lots on VW sites. We made our own in the end. Re storing the Base Seconds, I might be wrong but I'm sure we used to put it under the AFT when travelling?? We tried that first b...

Re: First trip using the base seconds as an awning

Hello We use the Base Seconds, too. We store ours, for travel, in the footwell against the sliding door. It's a perfect fit, keeps it out of the way (when we have two in the back and loads of gear) and it doesn't move so doesn't need tying down. The bulkiest part of the circle wedges into the footwe...

Re: Lambda sensor

I had mine done last summer as an unintended (but forewarned) consequence of a complete exhaust replacement, including catlytic converter. The garage had intended to reuse the old sensor in the new exhaust but... If all is well it is a simple job (certainly well within the DIY remit) undertaken bene...

Re: 2.0 petrol cold start problem

Hello First, I really must stress that I am no mechanic, so this is offered purely as something to consider. Your problem sounds exactly like the symptoms I used to experience with a motorbike I had when I was younger. I only ever had the problem at this time of year (winter) and then only on cold o...

Re: Plug sockets

Hello. What were you running (what did you have plugged into the van sockets)? Unlike homes, campsite hook-ups have a limit on the power that can be drawn (and this can differ, from site to site, from 5amp to 16amp etc from recent experience). If you were trying to run a hair dryer, for example (800...

Re: A quiet fridge?

We also have a Waeco compressor fridge which has a small freezer compartment and it is very quiet (but not silent). During the day, we freeze picnic cool box freezer packs (flexible type, not the solid blue plastic blocks), then take them out and place them amongst the food in the fridge when I swit...

Re: Fridge - unpredictable operation

May I ask the type/model of fridge you have? The zig unit is quite an old piece of kit, designed when the three-way fridges that are more commonly found in VWs were prevalent. These are of the absorption variety and are power-hungry, more-so than modern compressor models so are not wired into zigs (...

Re: Fridge - unpredictable operation

Good. That sounds like the fridge is not directly connected to solar power. I would, in the first instance, simply flick that 12v switch to 'on', when not on hook-up, drive (indeed, check before driving) and see what happens. If, as the manual states, the fridge is not connected to it, nothing will ...

Re: Fridge - unpredictable operation

Sorry for abrupt tone - using iPhone key pad. On hook up - fridge working well Driving - should work from solar panel, but defrosts Do you really have the fridge wired directly to the solar controller, as you appear to suggest? That would not be advisable. The solar panel should be connected, via t...

Hello I spotted this after accidentally clicking on 'Unanswered Posts' - did you ever get an answer (elsewhere)? I only ask because I've just replaced mine (this week) and sourced it from AVA Leisure (full cat with pipe sections, with all bolts and gaskets). If you still need one, give them a call 0...

Re: Overheat coming home from garage

A great post, OP. No offence but now might be a good time to highlight (to any new or potential 2.0 ltr petrol owners) that the bleeding demonstration video (excellent though it undoubtedly is) does not apply to them as the 2.0 ltr petrol is self-bleeding. The method demonstrated in the video is onl...

Re: Front wiper arms

Very easy. I have a 1998 model - there is a round, black pop-off cap covering the nut that needs removing (with a socket set) then the arm simply lifts off the toothed spindle. Can be a bit tight but no real headache. I had to remove mine to remove rust from the arms, sand down, respray and refit an...
