Sounds more like the gauge or sender is faulty or disconnected.

I've got the usual problem with a few screws pulling out of the roof but I can't unscrew the screws from the threaded plugs - is there an easy way to glue the plugs back into the roof with the screws (and therefore roof) still attached?

Just had the bulb blow again and it turns out a standard 509T bulb fits - I got one from Halfords for £2.50 but you can get LED versions in various colours on ebay etc.

Much easier to find and a lot cheaper than the BMW part which I think is 62131383311 and seems to cost around £10
