Re: Lots of clatter but no damage? How come?

All good suggestions - and thank you - but my mechanic needs the head bolt torque settings and sequence before anything else. It seems that this info on the V6 engine is not 'out there' in the way that the diesels and 2ltr petrol engine is available.

Still hopeful that someone will pop up and help ...

Re: Lots of clatter but no damage? How come?

The obvious place for the metal to come from would have been the heads which is why they were sent off to the engineering firm for stripping and examination and re-seatting of the valves. That has been done and the heads have been declared A1.

The plugs were intact when they were removed and the ...

Re: Lots of clatter but no damage? How come?

Unlike the diesels the 2litre and 2.5 litre petrol engines are not an interference fit .. so maybe sufficient room between pistons and valves to get away without any serious damage ..

One of the reasons if a cam belt 'goes' on the petrol engines .. you should be able to fit a new cam belt and be ...

Lots of clatter but no damage? How come?

Several weeks ago, whilst overtaking a bus, I was aware that my engine seemed to rev higher than usual before changing up. I continued my journey with no problem but, on starting from cold. a tremendous clatter suggested a serious problem. After recovery to my local garage, the engine was removed ...

Re: Intermittent brake fault

Thanks again for the replies explaining the unidentified component.

The 'confused ABS' possibility would be feasible except my van doesn't have ABS fitted I don't think. There is no ABS warning light on start-up. I think the fact that these symptoms are not described elsewhere in the forum suggests ...

Re: Intermittent brake fault

Thanks for that teenmal. Is it safe to assume that this is not related to my problem as described above?

Re: Intermittent brake fault

The cables are mechanical, like cycle brake cables.

Re: Intermittent brake fault

Mine is an 'R' Reg ('97/98) V6 with LPG conversion. The component he was wondering about is directly above the brake light switch above the brake pedal. It is black, about 3cms long and cylindrical in shape.

When I said 'solenoid' I meant 'relay' - sorry.

Re: Intermittent brake fault

Thanks for the replies and suggestions. I feel that the disc warp is not relevant as it is at a very early stage. I will pursue the possibilty of the servo issue. I described the symptoms to my garage man who started his investigation around the brake pedal area as the buzzing sound came from there ...

Intermittent brake fault

Greetings. Today, whilst under gentle braking on a level surface, I felt and heard a buzzing from the brake pedal. It did not feel like an ABS activation and I must stress it was very gentle braking. The pedal seemed to travel a short distance and there was a reduction in the brake effect. I ...

Re: towbars on lpg converted bongo

It can be done but a bit of engineering needs to be done to the mounting plates. I took mine to a friend who runs a small garage unit and supplied him with an A1 towbar kit. He did a bit of measuring up and then took the kit to a local engineering form. This lowered the cross bar to clear the tank ...
