Re: north coast 500

I've done the route a few times in the past, never in the bongo though. We've tended to stick to doing it during the week when it seems to be a little quieter. We've always come across the sports cars and bikes but most are friendly enough, i always pull over when safe to let them past and usualy ge...

Re: Intermittent power loss

Well got a call from the garage on Friday to say its now fixed, looks like the pump was indeed knackered. However its been a rather expensive problem to fix :( and unfortunately I think this may be the end of the line for me and my bongo. I love it to bits but I just don't think can't afford to keep...

Re: Motoring expense stories x 2

The best one I've heard about was this http://www.gtr.co.uk/forum/127250-accident-dont-do-what-i-did.html Its basically someone in a GTR bumped into the towbar on a van, the only real visible damage was crack in the bumper and the paint. However it also set off the single use pedestrian safety syste...

Re: Intermittent power loss

Has anyone considered the throttle position sensor as i recall this being the cause of some problems in the past though i think they were more related to gear changing. Might be worth a search though to read up on it. I did wonder about that, just to be safe I have ordered a replacement TPS along w...

Re: Intermittent power loss

Out of interest, what happens if you drop it down a gear and put your foot down (press HOLD, shift to S etc.). Not a lot  Just lots of noise but you don't get anywhere any faster. Even on a slight uphill slope no matter what gear it will gradually lose speed till you're doing about 40mph. Spok...

Re: Diesel loss of power.

I was tempted to turn the van upside down last night, but managed to get the filter out and back in the right way round tonight with the help of the laparoscopic forceps. Loosened off the fuel cap, and went out for another test drive and I think everything is ok. Thanks for the pointers. I'll tight...

I'm afraid not, they've checked the Turbo and various parts of the fuel system but so far no luck. I spoke to the garage this morning and they are thinking it could be the pump but are going to check a few things before they try replacing it.

Re: Intermittent power loss

Hi all, the same problem is back again :x this time however it hasn't been intermittent. The power dropped and its never come back, I checked everything I could but had to admit defeat. It's in the garage at the moment but even they are struggling to work out what the issue is. Fingers crossed they'...

Re: Oil pressure gauge

Hi Andy,it might be worthwhile looking for another take off point, these are sometimes allen plugs, on you engine (presuming its a Diesel) I would look on the n/s of the block towards the front of engine .It might be inline with the original oil SW. Good Luck. Thanks, will take a look. It is indeed...

Re: Oil pressure gauge

Yeah it looks a bit tricky to get at, I've got a hose left over from a previous project and i'm pretty sure it's got the right thread.

All going well i should have them all in and working saturday afternoon.

Thanks

Andy

Re: Oil pressure gauge

Hi You will have to plumb in a remote "T" piece, as there is no clearance on the block to add a "T" in situ, because of the block casting. I have oil, and a fair few gauges....errr....about 12 so far    ...probably more coming! Cheers Helen Thanks, thats what i fi...

Oil pressure gauge

Hi All, I am have been fitting some extra gauges to my Freda to help keep an eye on the engine and cooling system. I've already got my water and oil temp gauges installed and working but i'm not sure where to fit the sender for the oil pressure. is there a spare port on the block that is blanked off...

Re: Alloy wheels in Silent Silver??

For a mainly dark coloured car i would always go with a lighter coloured wheel unless its all black, then a bronze look can be quite good. If its a light colour car you can get away with blacks or a gunmetal.

Re: Radiator drain plug

Be careful of not draining the coolant when removing the drain plug .. a quick thumb in the hole while some one else fits the washer and quicker still in replacing the plug .. or you will lose the coolant and have to do a full coolant bleed .. Maybe try to slacken the plug by several turns .. then ...
