This pic is when I'd just got Boris...

It looks like "Boris" has had his upper bunk "tray" removed. And perhaps also had the roof opening enlarged (by that I mean a section of the remaining roof near the ...

Re: Interior Dimensions (for conversion design)

Latest news, after spending days looking I have eventually found every measurement needed for a Bongo, height, length, interior, exterior, I'm sure this is the most comprehensive guide we have seen.

Re: Interior Dimensions (for conversion design)

If I stand facing the sink (the right half of the smev unit, where the pedestal part is) exactly centrally I have plenty of headroom. If I move a little right (so the window latch is directly in front of me) then my head touches the roof hatch assembly. The thing is, if I move that little bit ...

Re: Interior Dimensions (for conversion design)

Nice design and finishing work, looks very clean. I like the "pedistal" sink I was thinking of doing something similar.

Cheers. Its an "M" Reg.
A 95 ... so should fall in the 1st Gen AFT

I wouldn't get too obsessed with headroom - pretty much anywhere below where the internal roof/hatch lifts ...

Re: Interior Dimensions (for conversion design)

Nice sketchup model! Im using sketchup too.

Do you have the headroom ceiling drawn above the kitchen as well?

No - I drew a box, which represented the total space to play with, then I deleted the top and 3 of the sides to design the kitchen. The height from the floor to the window ...

Re: Interior Dimensions (for conversion design)

Not 100% sure, but the first model was the lowest, 2nd was the highest and my version Aero free top was in between. mine does lift a lot higher than my previos one which I did not know till I was asking a local Bongo breaker, VGS imports, about sourcing a new roof canvas. He has an internet site ...

Re: Interior Dimensions (for conversion design)

Just to throw something into the mix here, it depends on which model year you go for as when looking at new roof canvas I discovered there are 3 different heights to which the roof lifts, mine is a 2001 and lifts much higher than my 95 did. It is quite noticable too as the roof has a lock button to ...

Re: fresh and waste water tank mounting locations undercarri

I think that most camp grounds here near the rockies are now requiring grey water tanks most likely to reduce environmental impacts and bear "problems". So I think I am stuck.

Rockies, bears...I'm guessing you're not from round these parts? :)

Nope, I'm about 4200 miles west in Alberta ...

Re: fresh and waste water tank mounting locations undercarri

Thanks for the fantastic pictures, really helpful.

The ability to clean the "tanks" is one reason I was considering using ...

Re: Interior Dimensions (for conversion design)

Thanks for braving the cold!

1) 7' ... I was really hoping there was more length to work with in there.

2) The headroom is still a mystery to me. Your measurements are quite a bit lower than max height of the AFT roof. The upper "bed floor" and the AFT roof appear to be almost parallel to each ...

Re: Interior Dimensions (for conversion design)

awesome keep the info coming!

I updated my drawing to include your measurements ... something odd is going on with the headroom, maybe I misread your post. The factory drawing suggests the headroom is much higher. Maybe the bed tray doesnt lift all the way to the roof?

Re: fresh and waste water tank mounting locations undercarri

Great pictures! The full length shot of the exhaust was perfect.

I was thinking of using 6" or 8" diameter plastic plumbing pipe to "build" two 6' long tanks one for fresh and one for grey. I thought these might be easier to fit than a "box" tank. If the box goes in easy great.

Re: Interior Dimensions (for conversion design)

Here is a picture ... I want to figure out the approximate size of the "box" that's available for the conversion space.

As you can see the spec measurement of 111.4" doesnt seem to agree with the approximate point of max headroom (81") based on a AFT at a 34.3 deg angle. Maybe the bed tray hangs ...

Re: Interior Dimensions (for conversion design)

I suggest that we use the engine/cab hump where it meets the floor as the datum point for length measurements of the cargo build area.

For the headroom measurements with the AFT up the edge of the opening (front of vehicle) should be used as the datum.

Bongo spec says the headroom at the front of ...
