Header tank

Hi folks. I've come to the conclusion that my thermostat is knackered, so will obviously need replacing. While i'm doing this, i'm wondering if it's possible to clean out the header tank, cos I can't see through it. I have to shine a small torch behind it to check the level. Any ideas?

Regards

Re: East Midlands National Bongo Day Rutland Water

Absolutely. Despite the cold, it was a really good turn out. Almost 20 Bongos in all. I've been on quite a few forums in the past, and never met anyone from them, so it was nice to meet people in person today. Hopefully there'll be more meets throughout the year. Thanks to Richard for organising it ...

Re: Found a leak - what should i do?

Forgot to say that. Ours has had a new rad and main hoses, so they look in fairly good nick. Hence why I'm hoping not to disconnect it.

Found a leak - what should i do?

Evening folks. Just been out spannering the Bongo. Changed the oil, fuel filter and battery. It'd been a while since I lifted the seats, and discovered the tell-tale signs of a leak coming from where the top hose(i think) goes into the drivers side of the block, just above the water pump. I haven't ...

Re: Won't start

Aha. Could well be the glowplugs then. I was going to mention in a separate post that the light goes out, then comes on again once it's running. I'll try leaving them on for longer today. Lazyb5, I'm in Corby, so not far from Stamford really. Will pm you if i need help with it. Thanks for the offer....

Won't start

Hi folks. Was gonna take the Bongo to work today to fit the new tyres, but it refused to start. I noticed when manoeuvring it in the driveway to make it more accessible to start fitting my LCA it was starting to cough and splutter a bit. This hadn't happened at all while it was laid up and i was run...

Re: Cambelt advice

Would love to, it'd save a fortune. Given the location of the engine, doesn't it need to be up on a ramp to get to it properly?

Re: Cambelt advice

Doh! Forgot about that. It's a 2.5 diesel. I know the guy relatively well, and he said he's worked on Bongo's before, but isn't really a specialist as such. Heard good things about his work though.

Cambelt advice

Evening folks. Not long to go now til our Bongo is on the road. I want to get the cambelt changed as soon as it is, and had a quote today for £200 to do it. This would be using pattern parts, the kit for which is apparently £60-£70. I've got a couple of other places to ask yet, both of which have do...

We'll be there. It's been our plan all along to get ours on the road in time for National Bongo Day. We're only ten miles from Rutland water too. Will keep you posted.

Slight coolant leak?

Hi folks. Not long to go til our Bongo is on the road, and was going to start it today but discovered the coolant level in the header tank was just below the minimum. Obviously there must be a small leak somewhere, so I'm planning to rig up a pressure testing kit like the one I've read about on here...

Re: Oil advice

Thanks for all the advice. Went to get some today before they sold out. Already got a filter, just need a washer. We've got Mazda and Ford dealers here. Which is the best one to go to? I've never been in either.

Oil advice

Evening folks. Just been into my local Asda, and they have Castrol GTX pretty much half price. Gonna do an oil change soon, so would it be a good choice? It says on the label it's for petrol and diesel engines. They have 5W-30, 10W-40 and 15W-40. Our Bongo is a 2.5TD. Also, can anyone tell me how ma...
