Re: Very slow uphill and less than 20 mpg - Help

Thank you. Yes, it does seem to make sense, even to my feeble non mechanical mind. :-)

Re: Very slow uphill and less than 20 mpg - UPDATE

We've had a service and they seem to have got to the bottom on the problem. and it's expensive! The turbo gasket has been blowing out hot soot onto the air inlet pipe (official name air funnel apparently!) and has melted it down so only a small amount of air gets through. The gasket needs replacing ...

Re: Help needed STAT! Battery flat, won't jump start

Sorry, I've been away for a funeral so not replied. Yes it is a diesel. It started eventually after charging the battery overnight. Meanwhile it's always been terrible on hills, seriously bad, so that's what they are trying to sort it out at the service. It's taking days! I think he's just driving a...

Help needed STAT! Battery flat, won't jump start

We have a service booked tomorrow for our car and bongo...and now it won't start! (the bongo). Our own fault as not used it for ages. We've tried jumping it from the car and it just started...then died again and won't start now. It nearly turns over but not quite. Any tips/help? pleeeeeeeeeee...

Julian

Hit hold by mistake once and it wouldn't stop flashing thereafter for about a week. Bit wary of that button

Re: Very slow uphill and less than 20 mpg - Help

fuel pump timing or intake seal, injectors, tps, blocked intercooler, clogged fuel filter (or banjo as Mike said). How does it run/accelerate on the flat? Julian Will ask the mechanic to check those things, as they mean little to me. Might not be able to afford to take it for a while though. It run...

Re: Very slow uphill and less than 20 mpg - Help

Right, we've had a good look and no pipes loose anywhere that we can see. Will take it to the place in Hinckley we found, closest place to us here in Coventry I believe. The problem is the engine is covered in a thick layer of soot, as this happened before we got it and was the reason for the exahus...

Re: Very slow uphill and less than 20 mpg - Help

Hi Is this only on hills, with a heavy load? If you let the Bongo cool for an hour or so, does the problem go? and does it still remain slow AFTER climbing the hill, namely on the downhill stretch, OR if not slow after the hill, does it require more than usual throttle? ...there's an answer if you ...

Re: Very slow uphill and less than 20 mpg - Help

Thanks guys, things to consider.
It does seem to get very hot as well. A table resting behind the passengers seat literally melted to the floor on one trip... Wondering if coolant system is underperforming. The exhaust manifold is relatively new so shouldn't be that.

Very slow uphill and less than 20 mpg - Help

Hi, We have a 2WD 2.5l Diesel. We went round France and did about 3000km but the whole time he is hopeless up hills. It goes through all the gears and then can't try anymore so we crawl up them. It's getting very frustrating as something clearly isn't right. Plus 18 mpg is also very low I think, eve...

cheap & friendly campsites in France wanted!

Hi, we're venturing to France in Um next week, our beloved new Bongo, and we wondered if anyone could recommend any good campsites. Going from Cherbourg down to provence via the Loire valley hopefully. Preferably small sites, not bothered about swimming pools etc as long as the there's a half decent...
