Awning fitting - Newbie!
Dear All,
Please forgive me if this has been asked before. Just purchased "Bernie" 2001 V6 2.5. I need to get an awning a.s.a.p in-order to get on the road! My dilemma is"Bernie" has a pop-top, when closed the rubber seal seats tight on to the rain gutter. Does this mean that a figure of 8 system is out of the question?
Many Thanks - Paul - Gloucestershire

Hi paul
I'm guessing it's an after market roof, but assuming you raise it befor fitting the figure eight it should be ok.

Re: Awning fitting - Newbie!
A photo may be helpful, but I haven't seen a bongo with a lifting roof that can't also have an awning attached to the gutter via figure of 8.

It looks like it may be fiddly to do but you should be able to clip the figure of 8s onto the gutter and leave it there, shouldn't you? Must admit, not sure I've seen that roof before.
It actually looks like a roof fitted by Andy's Imports. Have a look here: http://www.andysimports.co.uk/

I’ve got one from Andys Imports with the pop top (which looks very similar to yours). I’ve clipped figure of 8 onto it with no problem & just leave mine on there.

Thanks all,
My pop-top was installed by Northstar Conversions I.O.W. Just had a word with Adam of Northstar and the fig of 8 will definitely be o.k. Just need to source the awning now

Re: Awning fitting - Newbie!
Morning fellow Bongonauts!
Recently returned from our first trip in "Bernie", had a bit of an issue with the F8 in that it took two strong men to remove it from the van (thank-you Northstar) My question is should the F8 be left on the van, (spent formative years grappling with rust Mini/Viva etc!) will the rain gutter still act as a gutter or a rain trap leading to the dreaded tin worm? Also are there different sizes/qualities/flexibility of F8, in terms of the attachment to the Bongo? The F8 we have is a hard grey plastic from "Go Outdoors" with in internal diameter of 8mm. Thanks in anticipation.

Hello
I leave my F8 on all year round. I purchased mine from my local caravan dealer as they sell 8ft lengths in white which as my bongo is also white it's hardly noticeable once on.

I leave the figure of eight on all the time, well until I changed tge 3 separate strips for one long single strip, when I cleaned the gutter before adding the new.

Re: Awning fitting - Newbie!
I have had f8 long lengths permanently on both sides for 10 years now and no problem. I finally took them off this summer to repaint the rain gutters. I thought they'd be a nightmare to remove but by making sure full sun was on the side i wanted to remove the plastic yielded to upwards levering without major drama. Phew! They're now back in place for the next 10 years

Re: Awning fitting - Newbie!
Being honest Jilly it was just luck and hot weather that caused me to discover what, with hindsight, was an obvious trick. Doh! I daresay they could have been tougher to remove elsewise.
