Side bar fixing

Hello all
Im a new owner of the Mazda Bongo. I bought a a tired looking Bongo that needed some love. Theres still a few things i want to add to her, the main one is side bars. As we all know they are like rocking horse poop. So ive decided make my own in Black. I am unsure of a secure fixing idea. Ive seen a few bolted through the sills but id prefer something more secure.
