Bongo Fury

There is a small reservoir in the tank (like a plastic ice cream tub) which sits under the pickup pipe and minimises the affect of fuel sloshing from one side of the tank to the other as the vehicle moves around. It could be described as a reserve tank in as much as the rest of the tank could be empty but there will still be perhaps up to a litre of fuel remaining until it drops below the bottom of the pickup pipe.

They are called Swirl pots/baffles, we had to fit them on various tanks in the past for various reasons, they have nothing to do with keeping a reserve head of fuel in the tank. When the tank is empty the pot is empty (no reserve)


Just a bit of useless information.

My fuel gauge on my last Bongo died and remained dead for a good long time, in that time I ran out of diesel a good few times before deciding on the golden rule that '500Km is an empty tank' and anything over that is good luck. If you keep a jerry can in the back (diesel is safe to carry and some types don't stink) the 5 or 10L will easily get you to safety. The little reservoir bit seems to stop the engines panicking too much about running out unless you repeatedly limp start it in desperation.

It turns out that our Bongo does have a low fuel light. It is orange and is the light at the top left of the right hand area of lights.

It came on, on Friday as I was going to fill up. I was able to put 55L in so I assume it is a 60L tank and there was 5L left in?

I think the tank is at least 65l
On friday I put 63.5l in (still running)
97 4x4

The low fuel warning light normally indicates that your vehicle has approx a 10 liter head of fuel left in the tank.

If you're brimming it, there will be a few litres in the pipe.
