Any recommendations for Campsites near Kielder ?
The wife and I are looking for a good Bongo site close to Kielder water preferably in the forest,
she wants secluded,quiet and picturesque.
I want hook-up and hard standing for the van and a decent pitch for the awning...
Any recommendations anyone ?

One word I'm afraid - MIDGES!!
Re: Any recommendations for Campsites near Kielder ?
Aww Muz.... a man of your vast touring experience and you're warning me about
midges...
I do attract them I'm afraid, but nothing a good dose of Deet can't handle, plus the wife does like those citronella
candles when we're sitting out
I have done a little research and Bellingham seems OK
Any other helpful suggestions ?

take the warning very seriously mate, we once rolled up early evening on the caravan and camping site to the south end, we packed in 30 mins and left---------------- finished up at otterburn, just out of midge range, but in the artillery range. .

After checking out the geographical position of Otterburn it seems closer to the
forest and rezzy than Bellingham so how come it fairs better for the wee beasties ?

Despite the above, last time we were at Kielder we didn't see a single midge

we were up on the tops, on a little horsey stable trecking place, maybe the wind kept them at bay, or the artillery shells fly low over head.
i have heard they have installed some serious mozzy killing machines around the area, but dont know how good these are.

I think Midges would be the least of your worries in that weather...
