Re: Driving in France - Definitive List of Requirements
Hi
I have an EU plate at the front but only a yellow generic plate at the rear, do I still need to display a GB sticker?
Also I may take a cargo box at the rear which has its own yellow plate, if I need a sticker at all will I need a sticker on that too~?

You will need one on the rear of the car, as you haven't got an EU plate. As I read it, you will need one on the box, unless that has an EU plate.
For the small cost, it's not worth the risk - P&O gave me one at the check-in desk

Does this apply to motorbikes also?
Re: Driving in France - Definitive List of Requirements
The yellow vests and breathalysers and glasses I mean not all of it
Re: Driving in France - Definitive List of Requirements
Yes those rules do apply to bikers too. However, the breathalyser rule has a 4 month grace period until March 2013 and may be scrapped altogether. I wouldn't bother buying any because the fine is only 11 Euros and the breathalysers are 4 or 5 Euros each so what's the point?

Do you happen to know what the fine would be for having speedcam alerts on a Tom Tom? I guess they could confiscate the device?Poohbear wrote:Yes those rules do apply to bikers too. Re: Driving in France - Definitive List of Requirements
If you have downloaded the latest speedcams for France from TomTom themselves then you don't have any! Once it became illegal they changed the French file to contain no data....
However you may of course use another source ....
However its worse than confiscate the device, see http://www.theaa.com/motoring_advice/ov ... rance.html;

Penalties can include fines of up to €1,500, confiscation of the device and of the vehicle.

Also interested as I'm going to Belgium via Dunkirk so will have a 9 trip to the border on French soil - and we all know about Sod's Law!
Are the laws similar for Belgium too?

Just a point on insurance. If you have UK insurance, it covers you in all European counties at the legal minimum for each country.
Re: Driving in France - Definitive List of Requirements
As a regular driver in France the things the boys in blue always check are High Viz for driver and passengers, triangle and although not compulsory...Spare bulbs. They can fine on the spot so carry a copy of your insurance certificate, your paper license and if you don't have a photo one, your passport and your V5. If you get pulled for speeding you may get away with a slapped wrist but be warned, they can confiscate your license on the spot of you are caught doing more than 25km/h over the speed limit.

Hi
Confiscating the licence sounds like a plan...in Greece they confiscate your number plates until fines are paid
Cheers
