Nippon Motors?
Nippon Motors?
Hi,
Firstly, apologies if this is the wrong section to ask .....
We are looking to buy our next bongo and a couple at Nippon Motors in Leicester have our interest. Has anyone heard of them, bought from them etc?
Any comments would be appreciated as we are 162 miles from them and want to try and get as much info as possible before making the cash and time effort.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Tony & Jacqui.

Heard of them
They been around a while
Not heard anything bad or good really
They was second or third on my viewing list when I was buying
They must be worth a visit

I had a look at the website. Seems like many. If they had the V6 I wanted, I'd go and see it.
Out of interest on their site i'm sure the engine for the last V6 on page 3 is a Diesel engine. That's normal for car dealers.

Thanks. We're taking a look on Saturday morning and they've offered a PX on our work horse but rust infected (rear arches) N reg tin top.
I'll let you know how it goes.

Quite a selection of Bongos and other cars there, with some eye popping prices. I rather fancied this:Bongolia wrote:Nippon Motors

Re: Nippon Motors?
My pride and joy (in the 1970s, and before the Bongo) was a 1958 MG ZB Varitone Magnette (two tone grey / forest green, red leather seats, walnut facia).Bongolia wrote:I wish you hadn't seen that!

What a beautiful, reliable and practical car it was, and quite sporty. I still dream I have it. Cost you mucho pesetas to get a nice one now (and this one isn't even a Varitone by the look of it, though it is cunningly two tone!.

Re: Nippon Motors?
Er .... think this topic has gone a bit .... well ..... off topic?
Our visit to Nippon Motors was interesting. He had a big selection of other imports e.g. Elgrand etc
Only three Bongos worth looking at and after VERY careful scrutiny we've put a deposit on one which he's going to prepare, service and MOT for collection on Friday of this week.
Had a bit of a barter with him and agreed a PX for our rust bucket as well as a further £200 reduction which will ensure if the vehicle & customer service are up to scratch ..... a positive report on here which he was very keen to receive
Details and pics once we've collected our 55k P reg petrol auto.

Re: Nippon Motors?
Look forward to the pics. I'm also looking to replace my Bongo of 10 years. Not easy but sure I'll find a beauty by the end of the year.
'New' Bongo bought ..... kmh to mph?
Ok all ... we took the plunge and our 'new' Bongo came home with use from Leicester yesterday. Slightly terrifying as we were able to do all the checks we could and THINK we've got a good deal. £4800 + our old Nreg tin top PX, with its BAD rust on rear arches/sills which would've failed it's MOT in October. Link to details of our new purchase: http://ebay.eu/2pTuxEq
Questions:
1) Having no previous UK life it still has the KMH speedo/odometer. Having looked at the brief fact sheet provided for members ( http://igmaynard.co.uk/download/speedo.pdf ) it seems that option 1 (just change the dial) is the best option. My question, is it just as simple as buying a new dial via eBay ( http://ebay.eu/2pjk7di ) and sticking it over the old dial?
Ps.The mileage is confirmed as 55, 000 miles as is on the original Japanese documentation which came with it ... was one of the big positives we took into consideration.
2) It has the original radio/cassette in it (which we will replace at some point) ..... but for now .... it doesn't work. Just doesn't turn on? I've checked re the fuse and as the fuse also runs the power wing-mirrors and cigarette lighters (which all work) it's not the fuse. Any ideas? Has anyone had a similar problem with an original radio? We quite like the idea, for now, of playing a few of our old and still owned tapes
Yes, I know the mph/kmh issue is sort of raised in other topics but it's a bit confusing tracking those topics down on this vast forum.
Thanks in advance everyone.

Re: Nippon Motors?
The radio won't tune the proper band for the FM stations in the UK anyway! You can fit band expanders, but to be honest don't waste your money they are normally very poor quality, replace the radio with a UK version even an old cheap one is better than what is fitted, you will probably need an ISO adaptor lead from ebay however.
Another option for the speed scale replacement are these style ones that light up http://www.visual-performance.co.uk/maz ... -200-c.asp

Re: Nippon Motors?
Thanks for that .... yep the old radio will be gone shortly anyway.
Ref the dials ..... those are just a bit too swanky for us
