Change reversing light to fog light, can someone provide a quick guide please
As per the title, I have read some people sacrifice the OSR reversing light and hook it up as a fog light, Is there a guide for this, I tried a search but couldn't find anything.... basically, which wires am I looking for to connect to the fog light switch.
TIA
TIA

If you already have a rear fog fitted you just need to take the wire off that and plumb into the new one.
If not you need to take a feed from the dipped heads and switch to the new lamp.
Geoff will explain better.

No current rear fog fitted which did make me wonder how the importer got an MOT on it...

Hmm, one does wonder.
Simple job, though.
Spur from dipped head lamps to a switch with indicator light, run wire to rear lamp, disconnect wire from reversing light, fit red bulb and connect new wire. 30/45 Mins, give or take.

This sounds great - we have one that dangles off the back bumper but it is for ever getting knocked.
Is it fully MOTable to have just one of them as a reversing light? Do you have to swap any particular one ie nearside or offside?
And is the option to drill a hole in the back of the cluster really worth it?
Thanks (and sorry for jumping on the post)

Pretty certain one reversing light is ok, not certain you need that.sotal wrote:This sounds great - we have one that dangles off the back bumper but it is for ever getting knocked.

You need to modify the o/s to be rear fog, it has to be on the centre line or to the off side of it.
If you just swap a reversing light I don't think you have to drill.
My MX5 came with this mod and its had 8 MOTs with us.
Re: Change reversing light to fog light, can someone provide a quick guide please
Reversing lights are not part of an MOT, fog lights are and as above, no drilling required for this method.
There must be an illuminated switch, mine just has a little LED.
My wife has an MX5, it has one reversing light and one fog light as standard, factory fit...

Sounds easier just to swap one of the bulbs out then and patch in the wiring to it.
Last question then (I think!) - to save me looking are they offset or straight pins on the bulbs?

They'd be straight as there's only the one fillament.
