Re: Bongo friendly garages in Yorkshire and the North East
I've used a local garage to me in Mirfield since Christmas.
Run by Andi -a bit of a mad bloke from Lithuania - but he knows Bongos, his charges are sensible and if possible he will do a professional repair rather than charge for new parts.
Pleasantly surpised when getting mine back from a full service that the center section of the exhaust had been sleeved & welded, new drop links were stuck in the back as well as niggly little things like the drivers window mechanism being freed up & all door hinges & locks lubed for no extra charge.
I like him, he's worth a visit

I will second mattylad.
Just had a my first service and MOT at V.I.S.A.R in Thirsk. Andy knows and loves Bongos. Also incredibly reasonable price.
The bongo will be returning here for years to come. I can highly recommend this garage.

Hi, need some help,
I've got an oil leak on the drivers side of the engine around the rocker cover/front end but i cannot find whats causing this, I've cleaned the area but still having trouble finding the cause, its not using much oil so not too concerned yet but I want to get to the bottom of it.
Can anyone recommend a garage in or around Sheffield or anyone i can take him too in order to try and sort this out,
Thanks everyone

Assuming it's more a "weep" than a leak, I agree with Northern Bongolow. They all have it but it never seems to become a problem that will inur any damage or expense (exept the occasional dose of Gunk to clean it off).
Maybe stick the camshaft seals on your shopping list for the next cambelt change but in the meantime keep an eye on the oil level just in case & try not to worry about it too much.
If you scroll back up the list on this page you'll find a couple of pointers to Sheffield based Bongo specialists who will be able to help.

Re: Bongo friendly garages in Yorkshire and the North East
I'm looking for a Bongo friendly garage in or around Newcastle. My Bongo just failed it's MOT rather spectacularly and I have had some eye watering quotes from non-bongo specialists. I need someone to look over it and see if it's worth resurrecting or not. I'm really hoping it is...but it's going to need a lot of welding!

Where abouts are you in Newcastle? I have a few contacts I could put you in touch with. Also add some pics of what needs doing I may be able to advise.
I live in Ryton.

Its a good two hours drive from you but my local Bongo friendly spannerman did pretty much the same work on mine last summer for a little over £300.Bearing in mind working round the drivers side sill needs extra care when removing the rear heater matrix plus bleeding the coolant system again, it's a fairly specialist job to save further headaches . . . PM me if you need more details.

I had a look at the pictures thats quite a lot of welding. I know garages in west chirton and hexham really well but not sure what they would charge, but you could try. £300 sounds very cheap, even factoring in the fuel to get down there.

Re: Bongo friendly garages in Yorkshire and the North East
Thought I'd update that the Van of Destiny is back on the road! Found a brilliant guy in Barnsley who was willing to take the job on, I can highly recommend speaking to Dave at Barnsley Auto Panels, he's done a really good and thorough job for a reasonable price and even donated a spare wheel for free! It came to quite a bit more than £300, but hopefully we will be on the road for a few more years to come.
Thanks for all the advice on here, much appreciated

Yes I can vouch for the Cramlington garage as my boss who runs a Bongo has had overheating problems sorted by them. Cheers Nibs
