Camping in Wales - advice needed

Post by Debs and David » Mon Mar 28, 2011 9:32 am

Hi ya'll

Myself, David and Pippin are planning a week's camping in Wales this summer. Now I don't know Wales at all. So if anyone knows of any places they can recommend. The criteria is loosely, reasonably priced, near a town or village with plenty going on, not necesarily at the campsite that can be quiet. We like quaint fishing villages, beaches, etc. love Cornwall but we went there last year. Walking, but not serious hikers and dog friendly that's a must. We've been recommended Gower Penninsula, or around St. David's, Solva? Don't want to travel too far tho. due to petrol prices, so maybe somewhere in North Wales as we live in Preston. We're open to all suggestions.

Any help would be gratefully accepted :D Looking on the internet anymore is doing my head in #-o

Thanks

Chris and I went to Criccieth a few times when were clearing Chris's Aunties and Uncles house, we found the beach a wonderful treasure trove of beautiful coloured pebbles amongst the mainly sandy beach. The pubs and we did a leisurely crawl were lovely and friendly there. We met a guy called Harry Bach, old fella he asked me where I had been all his life lol. He was with two other mates talking the native Welsh, one could not speak English. Harry invited us to their table when Chris and I sat down with them they were very polite and turned on English for us one one of them translated for the fella that could not understand us. Turned out Harry Bach during the war was in sent out to sea from Dartford Docks, I worked and lived near Dartford years ago. Not on the docks <w> Small world. Harry Bach remembered Chris's Uncle Jack they used to hang out together, Harry described a chair that was in his garage years ago that his wife hated. Chris and I both had a light bulb come on remembering the chair we had seen at the house and took a fancy to because it is beautifully carved and has an embroided seat. We asked Harry if he wanted the chair back proclaiming our love for it, he said "no his wife never liked it". Needless to say it lives in Allithwaite now we both liked the guy. Must look him up again.

Back on track when we visited Criccieth, one of the landlady's used to run a pub in Cartmel (just up the road from us) not sure if she still does. One minor draw back to was on our last vist. They won't serve a large white wine with ice, only a single. Like I am young enough to start a riot lol.

Is a beautiful area though Debs, castle ruins, history I loved it. If it was closer we probably would have kept Auntie and Uncles house.
