Pub for a treat
I've been looking for a nice oldie worldie pub with very nice rooms, 4 poster bed etc... in the lakes. Any recommendations would be most welcome. There are only a small amount I've been able to find online, have pub owners never heard of marketing?

Ralph Waldo Emerson, the American poet and philosopher is generally attributed with saying:
But seriously, are you thinking pubs or guest houses. Someone in my old gliding club now runs a beautiful guest house in the Lakes. I doubt it's cheap, and its probably a no dogs no kids, no smokers place but I could dig details out if interested. We've not been - I smoke, we have kids, we don't have £, and my wife says I'm a dog
I reckon a lovely pub with limited facilities probably takes that as its marketing creed"If a man can write a better book, preach a better sermon, or make a better mousetrap, than his neighbour, though he build his house in the woods, the world will make a beaten path to his door."

If you are going at short notice try:
http://www.laterooms.co.uk
They offer reduced rates for late booking.
Most of the hotels have links to the hotel website.
I'll have a dig around for hotels with 4 posters.
cheers

yeh tends to be a bit of a problem in the countryside on-line marketing some areas dont have broadband yet, and anything less seems a bit pointless -no one wants to wait ages for a download and no-one wants a website pre broadband design. also they tend to be independants who dont have the buying power of the chains.

when i lived over that way the whitewater hotel was THE one to stay in

think you may have to sell your bongo for a night there though, and a bit near the main road in my opinion.

Now if you truly want something different, how about this place Click on bedrooms to see choice of themed rooms including four poster beds and hot tubs. Nice log cabin with wood burning stove too. It's in Bowness-on-Windermere
