Reupholstered original back seats

Post by Jofish » Sun Sep 25, 2016 9:46 pm

We are looking at our options and considering a diy conversion or getting it done professionally. They key thing is having safe rear seats for two kids, but still having a comfy bed. Rather than paying for the rib or crash tested beds, I wondered about getting the original back seats reupholstered, removing the front passenger seats and replacing with some kind of bench that would come together with the seats to create a bed. Basically exactly what's been done here: https://yellowfieldscamping.co.uk/2012/ ... conversion.

It's quoted on the link that it cost £500 to get the seat reupholstered, which seems reasonable when you consider the cost of crash tested/pull tested rock and roll/ribs etc. Has anyone had this done, have any idea who could do this (I assume vehicle reupholsters), and
Does £500 seems realistic?

Thanks
Jo

I can't help with the cost but we've got a side conversion from Northstar, instead of a R&R bed it uses both original bench seats but shortened and reupholstered to make a flatter bed.

The flattening makes a massive difference. We still use a topper to make it absolutely comfortable but only an inch thick of blue foam in a homemade cover.

http://www.northstarconversions.co.uk did our conversion but I believe they can also do the seat flattening as an individual service.
