Re: My DIY conversion progress
Hi folks,
Today i made up the other box seat.
All went quite smoothly, so only took 5 hours or so (that includes the drawing up for it to take up the side panel shape!).
The box was going to be half the length it is now, but i figured that it was probably just dead space if i did that as it wouldn't be a big enough floor space for any use, so now it is will house the gas bottle plus some other nonsense stuff!
So this is it currently:
So i now need to make up the 2 panels to make up the last of the bed. Once that is done then my mother in law can make up the mattress. So it is very much on it's way.

just a couple of questions --
where the sub - tv - dvd player
I did see a vw with similar boxes etc
he opened one box and a tv rose up from inside
very cool - I wish I has time and patience to produce such bits
if its not produced in a weekend - then its not for me lol
keep us all updated

Thanks for the positive reinforcement guys!
Yes i'm also getting excited to see the bed configuration laid out, it's all in my head at the moment and until i see it set up, it may be
rubbish!
No real plans for crazy ICE i'm afraid, i got that out of my system in my early twenties.
I do have a 2 sets of speakers to fit plus an under seat subwoofer, so all low key bits. When i fit those is anyones guess though as i have so much else to do (and a baby due in May!)
Oh, our double din stereo is bluetooth so we can always get a tablet and run it off that for sound. By aunty has a nice flip down dvd player in her Bongo, small, but great when we borrowed her van a couple of years ago.

Oh, and in the old days when my wife was working, i would take a week off to build up whatever project car i was doing. If i had that luxury now, i could easily have got this build done. Who'd have kids!

Yup. My diy days came to a virtual halt once the kids arrived. On the other hand the Bongo arrived just in time for the two youngest to enjoy a bit of what Bongo camping was about. And now i have a hobby car in my dotage.callum wrote:Oh, and in the old days when my wife was working, i would take a week off to build up whatever project car i was doing. Re: My DIY conversion progress
Hi folks,
Today i finished off the bed boards and fitted a side reading light.
The small removable panel for the bed was a bit of a faff as one of the legs had to be mounted onto the door panel so had to remove it and re-do it as was a tad unbalanced. Much better now though.
On Saturday i should have the top cupboard made and an led strip light on it. Then it's just a case of waiting for my mother-in-law to make the matress.

Re: My DIY conversion progress
Hey,
Thanks for that.
I am happy, of course it looks better in the pictures than it does in person, but i'm still very happy with what i've done.
As is always the way with these things, i would do plenty of things differently if i was doing it again, and i'm not near finishing yet. Once you've commited to cutting up £100 per sheet ply, you just have to stick to it though!

Re: My DIY conversion progress
That's a really interesting conversion - I like it a lot. What is the sleeping length for the person on the cooker side of the bed. Could someone 6' tall sleep on that side?
