Hook up input socket

Post by mellon man » Wed Oct 02, 2013 3:20 pm

I NEED TO KNOW the best place to fit a electrical hook input socket on my Bongo.
I notice at the back of the rear right hand side wheel arch looks a good level area noticed is double skinned so is there enough depth for a socket :?:
I hope Please someone can you advise me before I start to drill and cut the side of my van :?

The other side works OK as well, definitely not double skinned here, depends where your conversion is. This was for a factory Cube Kitchen.
Measure it well before cutting and seal it with silicone sealer between the bodywork and the socket body.

Cheers briwy - mine not as big as those (ohh Matron) mines square  so wont need such a big hole but more depth (to many innuendos I'd better stop now)

I would run the cable in through the driver's window and drape it across the steering wheel.

Anywhere round the back could result in an attempt to drive away while still connected!

Has anyone ever tried popping one of these T4 dummy fog lights in their rear bumper?

I need to change my old rubbish fog light and thought one of these with a hook up behind it may work, has anyone tried it? - my friend has a T4 with his hook up behind it. Looks very tidy and no need for cutting scary holes

If I was fitting a new hookup socket i'd be looking at fitting it to the rear bumper. Much easier to cut the plastic and no worries about sealing metal bodywork and rust.

How would you water proof the back of socket where you fit the internal power leads ?
Is there a safe water proof input socket you can recommend ??

Mine is a 'professional' conversion .. they have used 1" god awful corrugated trunking ..

Image

Dunno about water proof but it gives a very amateurish look ...

Mind you .. I say professional a bit tongue in cheek .. when I pulled the panel back to get to wax oil I sliced my finger open .. when they cut the 'patch' out for the 240v inlet .. they had left the razor sharp oblong bit of scrap in the bottom of the inner wheel arch ..!!

The RCD box behind the rear seat is just as amateurish and takes up valuable space ..

Image

The front of the panel is also difficult to get to ..as it involves 'grovelling' around on your belly ..

Right Dave, yes not the best use of space, but impressive control pad though
I was just going to fit an isolator with a twin RCD socket and may be a in line with a 13amp or lower fuse box (if enough room as I already have these spare so save me money)
Will that be safe enough :?:
