Aircon receiver/drier

Post by Ged » Sat Aug 05, 2017 10:41 am

Has anyone found a suitable new aircon receiver/drier for a 1998 2.5TD? Apparently the original part isn't available. Also has anyone had experience of flushing the aircon system due to seized compressor, if so what is it flushed with? Thanks.

I too tried to find a replacement drier but drew a blank. I ended up puttting mine in an oven at work at 40 deg C for a week to fully dry the silica and re using it taking a chance that there was no loose debris inside that could get recirculated in the system. As for a seized compressor I think that is irreparable, no amount of flushing is going to restore a bearing or busted vanes. They usually seize from being allowed to run dry, your only hope for that is a good used replacement.

Ok thanks very much for that on the receiver/drier. Yes I have got a replacement compressor but was advised that the system should ideally be flushed as debris from the seized compressor might have got into it.
