Hi.
I had my Waeco MS50 fitted today by R D Motors in Poole (who were absolutely fantastic). The garage list in the members area is a great resource!
It passes the initial demo mode tests, but out on the road it will not set. The poor guys spent hours trying different things and were tearing their hair out.
The one thing they didn't do was cut the link in the control unit. I said I'd seen on this forum that you should, but the instructions say that cutting the link merely raises the minimum set speed to 60kph.
Can any confirm whether the link needs to be cut for the unit to work at all? I need it to work at 30mph, so don't want to cut the link just to try it.

Seem to recal the same thing with mine until I cut the link.
1996 Diesel.
If you cut the link in the middle you could repair it if necessary, but I'm pretty sure it needs to be done.

I cut the link and it works! Thanks for that.
Tried it as low at 20 and 70. This is so cool. Holds the speed rock solid. The wagon is turning into a limo.

I'll take some pictures so other 2L petrol owners can see how it's connected. Picking up the vacuum stumped me.

The pictures in Simon's guide (for which I feel a bit like a distributor, I hope Simon doesn't mind!) relate to a pre-1999 diesel. So people highlighting the differences for other engines such as the vacuum feed and perhaps throttle control (especially for post 1999 fly-by-wire) could be very useful.
I'd be happy to collate these.

Okay, here are some pictures of the installation on a 2L petrol.
Throttle linkage:
Diaphragm location on driver side:
Vacuum take off - top front of engine driver side:
The wiring is the same as in the diesel help sheet. The wires feed through to the control unit via the existing engine bulkhead grommet in front of the diaphragm. I have the control unit mounted behind the removable panel below the steering column.

Don't forget to tell your Insurers. They'll probably just note the fact and not amend the Premium - especially as it was fitted by a garage - but it is a declarable addition and could save hassles should you need to make a claim.

Did the 2L petrol go fly-by-wire post 1999 or was this just a diesel thing?

It's still a good old fashioned throttle cable from the pedal
