Disconnected pipe

Post by Elbowpipe » Tue Aug 01, 2017 10:42 am

When I was rooting around trying to discover the source of the diesel fumes in the cabin, I discovered the disconnected pipe in the accompanying pics. Anyone suggest what it should be connected to?

Sorry about the links. Putting pics inline seems tricky here.

It seems to go onto a small pipe connected to the sump? Looking around I cannot see where the loose end should go. Could the ATF fluid be dripping onto the engine and cause the smell in the cabin? What are the implications of it not being connected?

as said its the gearbox breather the looped end should clip up around the back of the cylinder head, it should be fastened to the top of the gearbox to let it breathe but keep it clear of deep water.

its here in this link, click on the drawing number of the part and look in the left margin, it will tell you what it is and its part number.

check the gearbox level see if its spitting it out when it hanging down there.

I fished the J pipe up and attached it near the dipstick. (The gear oil level is fine by the way). Sorry for all the newbie questions, but in lifting the engine cover I discovered a random piece of electrical cabling.

Can anyone advise what this is meant to be hooked up to? The internal sockets don't work if that's any help.

Could it be the seat belt tell tale connector,do you have the corresponding socket/plug under the seat.

Doh! Of course, there is a matching connector under the seat. Thanks!
