Whistling/Squealing
Hi all, newbie here so please be gentle! Had our Bongo for 3 weeks now. Its 2000 2 litre petrol. At first it started whistling/squealing at 3500 revs and stopped once got into gear. Now it does it on start up, yet if I turn off and restart it doesn't do it. Still squealing at 3500 though. I've read topics that relate to No 1 Manifold Stud but can't locate it on mine as everyone else's pics seem different to ours. Trying to figure out how to post a pic on here at moment.
Any advice would be greatly received before I take it to someone who knows what they're doing and charges me a fortune!

Re: Whistling/Squealing
The manifold bolt only applies to the diesel engine not a 2l petrol.
Re: Whistling/Squealing
Thanks Geoff. So I suppose I should get it checked out then?
Re: Whistling/Squealing
Squealing, maybe not for a whistling noise: the simplest thing to check initially and eliminate from suspicion are the aircon and alternator belts. Worn or loose? Do they run smoothly even when squealing noise is present? Any of the rotating components seizing? Aircon on/off make a difference?
Also confirm if it has a manual or auto gearbox. Not sure where this would go but you mention it stops when in gear.

Re: Whistling/Squealing
I would - plenty of space for poking around in the engine bay on the 2 litre and hopefully source will be identified quickly. Excellent advice also from cmm303 above. Good luck and keep us posted.Cous101 wrote:Thanks Geoff. So I suppose I should get it checked out then?
Re: Whistling/Squealing
Sometimes a squealing belt can be diagnosed by spraying a small amount of water onto it while running.
We're talking a plant sprayer here, not the garden hose.

Just noticed Poop the Panda has gone and a new avatar has taken its place!
Did Poop finally succumb to dysentery or has he recovered and moved on?
Re: Whistling/Squealing
Bob's new "logo" is the photobucket banner indicating their withdrawal of free support for 3rd party hosting (the displaying of photos on sites such as this forum which are stored in photobucket). It affects photos in threads as well. This action appears to be creeping across posters here rather than affecting everybody at once. There has been chat about it in this thread.Bongolia wrote:BOBBob wrote:Sometimes a squealing belt can be diagnosed by spraying a small amount of water onto it while running.

Nothing to do with me I'm afraid.
He just vanished one night.
I can only think he ran away to sea or it's to do with the Photobucket charge thing.

Bill, if I knew how to fix it and keep my wallet in tact I'd do it.
I don't recognise me without Poo Panda.
