What leisure battery to buy
Hello all.
I am looking to fit a leisure battery as I have recently fitted the battery tray and have split relay ready to fit. My problem is I cannot seem to find a battery that will fit as measuring the gap in my 2001 2.0lt petrol model it would seem I only have room for a L335 mm x W210 x H190 battery yet all that I have viewed seem larger.
Can anyone who has the same model recommend batteries that fit.
Sorry if this question has been asked before but I have looked on the forum but could not see this specific question.
Thanks in advance

Re: What leisure battery to buy
there are 2 sizes of battery tray that are fitted for the leisure so take care.
Re: What leisure battery to buy
That height (H190mm) is limiting. You generally need about 220mm height at least.
Could you have transposed the width and height when typing?

Hello thanks for your replies. No error in measuring, when I bought the tray the seller did say it would only fit a 190mm high battery. I have found a 12v 90ah xplorer battery online but wanted to hear what others bought before buying.

Take a look here ... you can look at batteries via their sizes.

Thanks for the link. I have taken a look only again finding one which is 190mm high is very limiting. I would be interested in hearing what others bongo owners have fitted.

Try this site they have some low height batteries but think the one I've linked to may be too wide http://www.alpha-batteries.co.uk/110-ah ... y-lb6110l/
Re: What leisure battery to buy
Thanks for the link.. yes I believe that would press against some hoses thus compressing and reducing flow.. its a bit frustrating although i guess other owners have experienced and over come this problem.
Re: What leisure battery to buy
I'm saddled with a small battery tray as well. I think it might be a home made job.
The silly thing is the base plate is nice and big, but it's then got a smaller metal battery tray firmly welded to it that is only 220mm long. So I'm stuck with a 44AH battery presently - nothing else will fit.
Can anyone recommend a good replacement tray kit?
Ironically, my main battery is enormous - like something out of a truck!
Thanks!

I have one of these fitted http://www.newdawnconversions.co.uk/app ... ow/3266030. Not the cheapest around but nice solid quality and holds a decent size battery.
Re: What leisure battery to buy
I bought my tray off a guy recommended on here at £45, which in all honesty is a good solid tray which I am pleased with. I have subsequently re measured using a car battery and moving it one end of the tray to the other and although 190mm is still the height max the width is now 345mm max which has allowed me to purchase a xplorer 90ah leisure battery. Comes with a 5 year warrenty but I guess only time will tell as to how reliable it will be.
I have chosen to go with a none converted interior other than buying a table and slide rail, so it's only required for running the interior lights, stereo and cigarette lighter sockets which I use with a 12v cool box. I do have 60w portable solar panels to keep it charged up (weather permitting).

Re: What leisure battery to buy
Cool boxes can be lethal on batteries, fine when your driving and the alternator is supplying the power but a continuous 4 Amps to the 50% level is only 10 Hours assuming nothing else is running.
Re: What leisure battery to buy
Yes we have experienced this drain on a cloudy day.. the 60w panels kept the charged indicator on the battery lit whilst we had sunshine..
Maybe sourcing a low amp cool box will be my next task.

Thanks for that. I think I'll order one. Should save some weight as well - the Heath Robinson affair I have is made of heavy gauge steel. Goodness knows what it weighs!Katka wrote:I have one of these fitted http://www.newdawnconversions.co.uk/app ... ow/3266030. fyi, I put a Hankook DC24MF 80AH battery in and it fits fine. measures approx 26x17x22cm. If I remember right it came from www.batterymegastore.co.uk at a decent price. Thanks for that. I think I'll order one.
