2.5 petrol v6 cambelt

Post by davemanship » Tue Apr 25, 2017 11:25 am

hi all, im now the proud owner of billybong but i have no idea if the cambelt has been changed. im hoping you can help me with ideas of cost and midlands/staffordshire garages that may be able to help. he has done 89k miles and is a 97 model. i have been recomended to change water pump and cam seals. does this sound right. to me it makes sense. on a side note does anybody know if its an interference engine im wondering because i know the ammount of damage that can occur if an interference enging snaps its belt but not quite so panicked if is not.

thanks all

The V6 is NON-Interference according to this site http://yourcarangel.com/2014/07/interfe ... lete-list/

The cost varies a lot around the country due to the varying manhour rates and as most of the time is spent getting to the front its worth getting the Belts, Cam seals and water pump done as needed at the same time!

Mine cost me £700 in 2013 down in Sussex.

If in doubt get those items changed. Whilst valves may not suffer damage there can be damage to other components like casings etc.

davemanship , it might also be worthwhile having a wee look at the crankshaft oil seal for any signs of a leak.

Good Luck.

One obvious garage to mention for getting the work done is Ian Taylor in Stoke on Trent. He's been a Bongo specialist since about the time the first ones came ashore in the UK and has had a lot of positive reports.
