Air Pipe

Hi Guys,

Having sorted my various coolant issues, I now have another ailment

My air intake (?) Pipe has split at the corrugated section. Please see pic here:

The van makes a hell of a racket if I go over about 60mph!

I've had a look in the shop but cannot see anything that looks similar? I am not even really sure what to call it. Can I get a replacement? Or am I looking at getting one from a breaker?

Careful as you will be letting unfiltered air go to your engine through that split.

I've seen someone use self amalgamating tape before as a temporary repair (same pipe different car). The repair was temporary but ended up being there for at least 2 years before they sold the car on.

Bongo spares or any of the other bongo spares places or breakers will have one. Where about in the country are you?

I would remove it, give it a good clean and de grease then overwrap it with insulating tape and pop it back as a stop gap while you source one from a breaker or if you are feeling flush you could try your friendly Mazda dealer's parts counter. I will tape it up. I haven't been driving it since the hole became apparent, so shouldn't be any harm done.

Will try and search out a part based on the diagram and part numbers. What is it called?

And have ordered a replacement (used) from a breaker ok eBay. Couldn't find a new one online.

Will change it over when the new part arrives.

Even with the tape repair it was still noisy as hell.

Changed the pipe over for the 'new' one today - there was a second crack in the underside of the original one that couldn't be seen.

Fitted the new one on no bother. Only thing is, it's still really noisy with LOADS of vibrations if I go anything above about 35-40mph.

There must be something else going on too. Any suggestions..?

What type of noise and where from

Very hard to tell.

Vibrations through the steering wheel and dash. The drivers side dash is squeaky as hell.

The blowing sound (I presume from the broken air pipe ) is now gone. The engine seems to sound ok under all the shuddering. Little power though and not pulling as before.

I wonder if it's related to my recent coolant issues and the air pipe is somewhat of a red herring..?

Worth checking that you haven't inadvertently disconnected any of the vacuum pipes in the vicinity.
