I took the spare tyre out yesterday to inspect it and to practise taking it out!
The tyre is a full size spare with very good tread. It shows no signs of cracking or deteriorating. However looking at the dot code it was manufactured in the 42nd week of 2010.
It seems that the general recommendation is to use tyres before they are 6 years old, which this has just past. However a lot of the justification for that is that UV light deteriorates the rubber. As a spare it won't have been subject to as much uv night so do you think it would be ok as a spare?

Yes I would keep it as a spare just bear in mind the age if you need to use it.

Cool - that was my thinking too.
