Radiator / Header Tank Cap
Hello all
In the process of doing the front cross member on my van I have stupidly misplaced the cap of the Radiator or Header tank (I am not sure which as I only have one)
So quick questions are:
1. Are the Rad and header tank caps the same?
2. Could I use one from any other car like an MX5 or other Mazda or is it Bongo specific. The reaso to ask this is i would have liked to use it tomorrow and if i have to order one thats not going to happen)
Thanks from stupid

Re: Radiator / Header Tank Cap
The Bongo Shop only stocks one (ok, one original and one after market ) so I'd guess they are the same.
There will be a pressure marked on the cap, something like 1.1 bar, so if the MX5 one is the same and it fits I'd guess its ok.
At your own risk, mind.

Cool thanks
Never thought about the pressure rating, Glad I asked.
I still cant believe I have lost it. I main its not that small. I was very carful with all the bolts.
May turn up yet but at least I have a back up plan.
Thanks
Ian

Re: Radiator / Header Tank Cap
anything that fits on the radiator will be fine regardless of pressure rating as it does not vent from here it just acts as a cap, the venting is done at the expansion tank so the pressure cap rated at 1.1 bar should be fitted at the expansion tank.
old nissan micra and some other jap caps and motorbikes are the same size but not the same pressure rating.
look down the back of the expansion tank or under the battery tray next to the washer bottle res if you have a leisure battery, itll be hiding there.

One of those magnets on a telescopic stick might help find the little rascal.
Re: Radiator / Header Tank Cap
Personally I would fit the Proper pressure cap, if you do then you have a backup if the one on the header tank develops a pressure fault , you would simply swap them to get you out of a hole.
And lessen the chance of mixing them up.
Good Luck.

Great tip about using a magnet
I found the rascal!
It was behind the header tank as suggested.
Both caps are already pressure caps so that's another good tip.
Right off to Specsavers now
Cheers

Indeed. Voice of experience may be.
May actually get around to using the thing one day rather than working on it. I have mostly enjoyed it though.
Thanks again

We learn more from the rad caps we lose than from the ones we don't, Confucius he say
