Key numbers from VIN numbers and key numbers on the door lock mechanisms

Post by Purple Pixie » Wed May 18, 2016 1:45 pm

Hi

#1 any way to order a replacement key (non-transponder) from the chassis number alone?

#2 I believe the key number is on the lock mechanism, where?
I have access to an endoscope used to access cavities in houses,
what am I looking for and where, if I get access to inside the door
by pulling away a trim panel?

Many thanks! This is for a nice lady with 2 worn out after market
keys the previous owner sourced

Not possible I'm afraid due to security reasons

Is that just a Mazda thing then ? plenty of other manufacturers have a key number database from the VIN & can order you a pre cut key if you go in with the V5 & I.D. etc assuming you have the original locks of course.

Mazda UK will not supply keys based on Mazda Japan database of VINs. I was told it was a security issue.

My key snapped in half in the ign barrel
Wheelquick came out, dismantled the ign and i took it to a locksmith who made me a key.
So I think the key number may be somewhere on the ign barreL

The number should be stamped on the lock/ignition barrel , the easiest one to use would probably be the drivers door, presuming the door locks and Ign use the same key.

Can the stamped number be seen on the lock by looking inside the door somehow?

I don't think key numbers have been stamped on door locks since Ford Sierras !
Most likely the garage stripped the lock to retrieve the broken bit & taken both parts to a key cutters, done it many times, as long as you have all the parts of a broken key most key cutters can copy it.

I am going to stick an endoscope into the door space once I can find out where the number is marked on.....! :?:

I don't think you will be able to read the code without taking the lock out and then removing the barrel , this should give you an idea of what is involved.

I replaced my car lock a few days ago, so I now feel more safe and secure as I know that it will prevent the chances of theft in my absence.

Think about getting a Disklok for that added security assuming it has an alarm and an immobiliser

It is not easy for a common man to open a door lock without having a key, unless he has the technical knowledge about locksmithing. However, I would recommend all my friends to hire an experienced locksmith for quick assistance.

The near do wells appear to do quite well with a screwdriver or punch.
